The conversion non AI to AI lenses happened long ago in a galaxy far far away by a company named Nikon for $20.00 a lens. Today some camera repair shops still have the ring necessary to do this. Someone here may know or an internet search or call our guy Hershel at B&H how might know.

Must not be much of a market today for those rings; if a market were there, some Chinese firm would be selling them on eBay. Pentax retired the M42-mount forty years ago, but there is still a strong market in M42-to-K conversion rings, some manufactured forty years ago by Pentax and some manufactured yesterday by a Chinese firm.

I suppose that the easiest way to convert the lens is to send it to Nikon ... the fee is certainly more than $20, now.

Forget that. When Nikon went to AI in the 70s, they converted the older lenses by putting on a NEW aperture ring that was manufactured with the necessary modification. I don't believe that they were ever in the business of machining existing aperture rings (correct me if I'm wrong). These genuine Nikon replacement rings were eventually sold by third parties, but the supplies for some of the older lenses dried up decades ago. I managed to get the factory rings for my 55mm f/3.5 Micro and 50mm f/1.4 lenses, but I was never able to find the one for my 55mm f/1.2, and I'm really reluctant to use a file or pay someone to do the same on a lens that has at least a little collectors value, not to mention sentimental value, and if were to be honest, newer lenses blow it away.

Agree! Besides I much rather use the Non AI lenses as is than a lousy modified job. In the case of the OP buying an AI version of the 135mm f/2.8 is a much better solution. I have one and I didn't think I paid over $100 for it.

If you really read my reply, you may safe this $65 on Ebay, you should read your Df manual completely to understand your new camera. The people that can answer you question about your new Df are the people who actually own or use and know this camera, because this is a camera that's so different to the other DSLRs. I suggest you should go through the whole user's manual to learn how this camera can do.
Now lets go back to the question, you just have to go to manual from page 163-168, then you can find the answer! The rest I don't have to guild you how to set it on your camera. Good Luck!
By the way, I said on my first reply that I did convert my two non-AI lens to AI by cutting the rim of the lenses, because in that moment I have only the Nikon D200 that the lenses can be used on it. Now I have the Df, I don't need to do any any more.

My Df looks different from yours! It's all black and has no case.

They are the same, two body choices, all back or chrome. I bought my own leather case from Amazon.
