"Best picture" is a difficult qualifier but my included shot is definitely one of my favorites.

This is going to a hard challenge as I have so many favorites. I am going to start with this one.

Taken last winter. I was driving around the farm looking for wildlife to photograph. I pulled up by the river and across the river I spotted a couple of deer, it was snowing and hard to get a good photo from that distance. After about 30 photo's they left.

I like this photo the best out of all the others. And worked it a little to darken areas to bring out the deer more.

I had driven by this scene many, many times in the past with hardly a glance. It was taken almost exactly one year ago. The stillness of the water caught my eye, so I stopped, turned around & took a few shots. This is from just one photo, but because the foreground weeds were not in good focus, I cropped them out. It might have been better with a polarizing filter but the camera is all I had with me on this trip ... no bag full of goodies.

I like it because it is so peaceful looking. Post processed in Lr 5.7. I think the 2nd one (cropped) is the keeper.

This should be a fun and informative challenge. Thanks for hosting Sharon.

Your egret image is beautiful....what a terrific job in capturing it.

My most current favorite image is a shot taken at Paul's Lake at sunrise Oct. 13, 2017. I was hoping to capture the fall colors surrounding the lake that are often a beautiful yellow. On this morning I loved the light and color of it and concentrated on that as the sun was not yet high enough to capture the true bright colors of the trees. Settings: f/11 1/100 ISO 800. PP in Corel Paint Shop Pro X9.

Hard for me to pick favorites or bests - that is the challenge for me. This one is part of a year long study of a stand of trees nearby. This was a particular favorite. Initial processing was in Lightroom 6. Also used Autumn presets and pumpkin spice vignette in On 1. Used Pixelmator to clone the gaps in the canopy. This image was critiqued in On1 and The Photographer and received good reviews which really encouraged me. Taken in Manual Mode, f5.6, ISO 100 1/180 with Pentax K3 The image was cropped into a pseudo pano

Oddly, many of my favorites are by far not my best. This is one that I submitted to a local, "Our Hometown" newspaper contest (last year). It took second place. It was posted on the website for a while, but never made it into print.

This is a beauty,Ft.! Should have been first place! How often do you see something like this!!

One more for tonight and then ZZZZZs for me. Best shot? It represents a milestone - stacking of star trails and then big time (for me) layering and masking. The 2 shots and final image: Star trails, taken at intervals over 30 minutes I think, were stacked in Star STax with gap-filling and average exposure +1 stop then worked in lightroom. The layering was done in Pixelmator.
The bike image was cropped. Shot in Manual ISO 100, f 8, 1/350 103mm with Pentax K3. This is one of my grandson's most favorite shots.

Cheetah siblings at the zoo resting after some play. Animals are a favorite subject of mine so we visit the zoo often.

Here are a couple from this summer. The first is a picture of the nearby Pine Grove Methodist church which I think is my best this year - my favorite in any case! The second is from a misty morning in June in the woods surrounding our house - the lighting was astounding and the picture doesn't do justice to the real thing!

Love the sun shafts and trees in #2! Has a religious feel of wonder!

The first picture (almost B&W) has been one of my favorites for some time. It has been shown several times in local shows and a couple of times, very slightly modified each time, in our camera club monthly contests judged by non club members. My thoughts were that it is/was somewhat unique with the small amount of red on the otherwise B & W print. The photo was taken on a very grey day and truly represents the colors of the sky and water; within a couple of hours, it was raining, stormy and wet ride home--the Admiral was not happy. The picture is pretty much the way it came out of the camera; I have only cropped it and enhanced the reds a little to make them show up better. Unfortunately, it never gets much attention or comment, but last month when I was unable to be at the review session, another club members asked about it. His response was that because it was all mostly one tone of grey, it didn't stand out or draw attention. He also suggested that the sky should be more blue, faithful to the real scene or not.

So I have re-worked it to be an overall lighter day and a mostly cloudy sky with some blue showing through. Those changes lost the red shirts and varnished foredeck so they have been repainted with a brush tool.

I would appreciate your comments and critique,

Jim

I like the original better, Jim. I think because it is unusual ...Love it! Maybe because the eye is more attracted to the boats due to the red and green ?? not sure...

Jim, I usually am drawn more to color versions of a photo, but in this case I much prefer your original B&W photo. The clouds offer a much more dramatic and moody touch to the photo.
