Yours is the classical example of why an assistant is a necessity during an important shooting session. This particular photographer risked having his gear stolen although the chances are excellent the gear belongs to the company that sent him there which could be a magazine or a newspaper.
I for sure will NEVER do that.

How much money do you think the photog left leaning against the track wall while he was about 100' away shooting cars and drivers?
Taken at the recent F1 race at COTA in Austin.
I love it, in typical UHH form not a one up to this point has answered the question but simply supplied you with their humble opinion's LOL

I love the responses in typical hog form, not one of the humble opinions answered your question. Although I can't identify the equipment specifically but based on my experience with some of those lenses if their prime 20, 30 grand with the other body and lens who knows. But then that's only my humble opinion and I can't really see the equipment all that well.
I will start at a dollar...
It would just be a wild ass guess anyway so what does it really matter...

It's nice to see such innocence! New York, Times Square etc. is all very different now, you might need to begin your research anew! I'd rather have the lens anyway!
My research ended years ago!

I bet it's not uncommon to see something like that where professionals are shooting. Is that area open to the public or just photographers?
In reality, I doubt the photog was taking much of a risk. The area was restricted to media, teams, performers, and other select individuals. On the track there was very little in the way of security personnel. Even the guy in the brown suit, just to the right of center, seemed to be on his own!

Identify the lenses and camera and tell us what's in the bag. Then we can look up the value and give an estimate.
Why are you worrying it? Not your problem.

Point out where I stated I was worried.

Think about this.
I really doubt if anyone affiliated with F1 would jeopardize their position by stealing anything. Track personel would remove things like that during practice or race times but it would be put away safely.
*(You do realize the entire track is on camera don't you?)
Figure that plus the general public is totally forbidden to enter or be on the track.

Not touching this one with a ten foot pole! :~)

Yes, as we can see, the track is a highly restricted area!
Actually, my posting had nothing to do with any theft risk. In reality his biggest danger was that someone would trip over it and damage it. Under the circumstances, such as being in plain view of the whole grandstand, no one was going to steal it.
As my topic title alluded to, this was meant to illustrate the difference between many of our fellow Hog members who seemingly are completely stressed out over the most minute detail concerning the care and feeding of their expensive toys, and the pro's who take a slightly different approach.
Obviously, a number of people didn't get it.

You're supposed to shoot the cars, not your gear.
