We signed up for PSP last year along with LR. Both CC. Now my wife thinks and has had suggested to her that we look at Affinity as a replacement. I have just started feeling comfortable with Lightroom, and my wife and i both took an online class together for PSP last year. Just a quick look at reviews and comparisons online have left me a little confused. Obviously price is a huge factor. As an amateur photog I am not totally engrossed in the use of either PSP or LR. Sooo, just wondering how many have used both and those fellow hoggers that have, what are your thoughts...thanks ya'll...

PSP is the acronym for Corel Paint Shop Pro, which is not a subscription product.

I think you must mean PS or Adobe Photo Shop, since both LR and PS come together in the $10 a month subscription.

I bet you're confused because each program has strengths and weaknesses, and there is no clear "winner." There is a substantial difference in price, though. Any modern processing program can make your pictures look better, and after using any one of them for a few weeks, you'll feel comfortable using it. My advice is to minimize expense. It sounds like you're paying $120 a year for PS and LR, and you own Paint Shop Pro. Affinity costs only $50, so it's not a big investment. You can try all three and see if you want to continue paying Adobe every month.

Maybe -- but the way I read it the OP -- really means PS (Photoshop) not PSP, he just used the wrong acronym for Photoshop.

Your suggestion is a good one. Affinity at $50 is a small investment and the OP can make comparisons against LR and PS and make an assessment on what he and his wife prefer over the long term.

There is a lot of items in Photoshop CC that I don't use and probably never will, but it is still my go to program as I love Bridge.

Agreed both Luminar and Affinity are Photoshop competitors not Lightroom. Until they both have DAM (both saying coming in 2018) PS still is a better photo editor for a serious photographer. I say serious but it takes a real commitment of time to learn and use PS, Affinity, etc. Luminar is a bit easier to use and learn in my opinion. On1 gives you both a DAM and photo editor but I feel it is a Lightroom competitor more than PS.

I own and have used Photoshop for 17 years. I've been using Affinity for only ae month and already prefer to use it for most of my landscapes. But I still prefer to use Capture One for all of my raw processing. IMO PS is better suited for pro graphic design work and Infinity is better for every day photographers. Infinity is an absolute bargain. The inpainting brush tool, blend ranges and live brushes are great!

I started with PSP, then moved to Affinity Photo when it was first introduced. Lived through the startup bugs, then just yesterday downloaded their new release 1.6. I have no regrets.

All these programs will do a decent job of PP. I use PSP 2018 and Aftershot Pro 3. Aftershot Pro is like Lightroom and PSP 2018 is like PSE on steroids. Every one here has their favorite programs for PP. Part of their "likeability" is due to the users comfort and familiarity with using them.

I understand Affinity works well with and was originally designed for the Mac. Does anyone using Affinity with a Mac, use Apple Photo as the organizer to go with Affinity?
