This is a female mallard. The males have the green hues on their heads.

Yep, good job here on this female. Nice reflection in the first image, good head angle on the second. Sharp, and well exposed. Mallards are relatively common, as least here in the States, so many dismiss them as opportunities. But when you get a good one, either male or female, they can be great images. Again, well done!
Male Mallards have the blue-green heads!

I thought Mallards had green heads... this gold color looks photoshopped. Is it? I'm not criticizing, I need to know for my own learning about photography. I would like to learn Photoshop. Please remember, I just need to learn more, I'm not criticizing you.
Thanks for sharing.
Hello GalaxyCat
I don't use Photoshop. Shot in RAW and converted to jpeg and cropped using Faststone with maybe a little sharpening if necessary. You can also use Faststone to lighten the shadows and bring out the detail if necessary. This is a female Mallard that was swimming with her mate. There was a glorious low sun casting this golden light through a tree. She swam right into the bright sunlit area and stopped. Normally a very drab bird her plumage came alive in the sunlight. I was hoping that her mate would do the same but he stayed in the shadows except for this shot of him which I didn't originally post because it's really just not sharp.

Hello Bill_de
She is, although I really wanted to get the male's spectacular head in the same light but that didn't happen. Really pleased that you liked them. Thank you very much for looking and for your comment, always appreciated.
