Today is the 500th anniversary of what we now call Reformation Day. On this date 500 years ago, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of All Saints Church at Wittenberg, Electorate of Saxony in the Holy Roman Empire. He wasn’t intending to start a new religion. Instead, he was protesting the sale of indulgences. Wikipedia’s article is interesting reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformation_Day.

Oh stop it right now. Ha!!! How could he nail feces to a door? It sounds pretty messy to me. Cute play on words though.

Thank you for posting this. I did know about it when in high school but had forgotten. I also had to look up indulgences and found it interesting as well. I relearned something today.

On a related note, ML was quite the insulter of his time. If you want a chuckle, look up "Martin Luther Insult Generator" on google.

So was Shakespeare - I have a poster entitled, "Shakespeare and the Art of Insults" - some of them are real doozies!

That Martin was the one that Martin Luther King was named after.

The three that I listed have been recognized as the foundation of the Reformation, although many have added the following two.

Actually, the 5 are from the reformation, not just 3.

The Five Solas are:
Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
Sola Fide (“faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
Sola Gratia (“grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, and King.
Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”): We live for the glory of God alone.
