These two photos are of Looking Glass Falls in the Pisgah National Forest outside of Brevard, NC. We met some other photographers at another waterfall and they told us they had done this falls at night. I asked my assistant (wife) if she would like try and at 5:30 AM we were up and at em. I thought 25 seconds would work but I still see some movement in the stars. Next time 20 seconds. I tried at ISO 1600 as well for less noise, got fewer stars also. The light below the stars is the approaching dawn.

Beautiful night shot. Never crossed my mind to do waterfalls at night. We were there last week hoping for better fall color. Oh well. Next year. With a strong flashlight.
Gorgeous picture. What caused the light on the waterfall?
Wow! Stars and waterfalls - 2 things I'm starting to pursue myself. Thanks for the inspiration.

Nice ones..especially the second shot.
They are both beautiful...but that 2nd one is so intriguing.
The technique is called light painting. We used an LED flash light to illuminate the falls. We had a lot of failures because of the mist coming off the falls in the wind. Of the dozen or so shots, 4 were usable and this is the best. Thanks for the kind comments.
I thank those two other folks who inspired us. We appreciate your comments and these will help my assistant look more kindly at some of my hair brained ideas.
Great - especially the night shot.
The night shot is beautiful.
