We have a weird problem with a 2013 Buick Verano. A strange toy-like "beep beep beep" emits from the dashboard area above the glovebox. It is not loud, but is annoying. It triggers every three minutes whether the ignition is on or off. Do airbags have internal audible alerts?
The car has low mileage, 21,000. It also suffers from a few alerts on the screen: "Side vehicle detection", and "Passenger Airbag". I am suspecting corrosion in a plug/connector but I haven't gotten under the hood yet.
I'm getting too old to figure this out and need a little guidance. Last step will be the dealer (GA$P!)
Thanks,
~Lee
Hello Lee, the beeping could be from the side vehicle detection alert. And yes, a car doctor is needed to plug in a scan tool to diagnose the air bag alert. You'll need someone with an expensive scan tool to figure it out as the cheaper ones can't read SRS (supplemental restraint system) codes. Some of the better shops have the tools or else it's the dealer. On some GM vehicles the air bags for 5 years so you may luck out. Good luck!
I meant to say the warranty is for 5 years so check your owners manual.

I have been a mechanic for over 60 years and I do own a Snap-on Solus Pro scanner I can say it cannot diagnose every problem with every vehicle. Sometimes you need a proprietary Scanner.
You will need someone with a GM TechII scanner to diagnose the problem. I hate to say this but the scanner is very expensive and only works on GM vehicles, so it is probably a dealer trip for you.
I doubt this is covered under vehicle warranty, but It won't hurt to ask.

Thanks, Frenchy.
I guess I'll have to take to the dealer.

Thanks, dead2fred.
That's promising information about the air bag possibly being covered. I guess I'll take it to the dealer.

I KNEW I shouldn't have sold my '53 Ford! None of this electronic hocus-pocus B.S. Actually, this is the first real problem I've had with any of the Buicks I've owned. It is time to visit the dealer, they have always treated me fairly.

As a former GM dealer{Chevrolet},I say go to the dealer. Even then it depends on the knowledge of the person assigned the job and the ability to use testing devises. There might just be a GM bulletin on the problem that the dealer's shop may have.

I am going to take it in. It is such a defeat for me. In the '60's I raced stock cars. I was on a pit crew for a sports car team. I have spun wrenches all my life and now it is time to face the fact that it is now beyond me.

I had a similar sound from my M3 and it ended up being a timer in the radio I had accidentally set!

We do not listen to the radio. It is a great system, but we enjoy talking in the car. HEY! I just had an idea! Turn the radio on and I won't hear the beeps! Thanks, Cykdelic.

My timer beeped when the radio itself was off....by "radio" I meant the technology in the dashboard.

Very little that goes wrong with cars built past 1980 (or so) seems to be actually mechanical, So don't feel bad. Cars today are more likely to be serviced by electronics techs than actual mechanics! I looked under the hood of my Buick Lucerne, And I think there's an engine under all that crap----I think..... But fortunately I haven't had any real trouble with "Lucy" 👍

Does it still beep when you disconnect the battery?
