Hi all,
I'm pleased to have found and joined this forum. It looks to be a good place, although sometimes it's a tough crowd ;-)
I'm a climber all of my adult life. I became interested in photography of climbing about ten years ago for a book project. For that I needed a camera in the one pound range so I could take it up climbs. Since the images for the book are reproduced at 6x9 or less, the Canon G10 nailed the job. The images project well enough too, which matters to me. Now I am embarking on a project to create a collection of images of my playground for the last several decades, California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. The big grand pictures, sunsets, clouds, etc. exist in the thousands. My goal is to capture the things one might not otherwise notice.
I'm starting out with a Nikon D-810. I have the 24-70 f-2.8VR lens and the 70-300VR. My biggest challenge right now, my favorite time of year for light and foliage, is all the friggin' smoke. California's fires make smoke, and it goes up into the mountains. :-(

Hello and welcome from Fayetteville, NC. Your project sounds wonderful. Have you thought of adding some smoke and fire damage photos to the collection since (unfortunately) fire is also a part of the story of the mountains?

Kristian welcome to UHH forum. You seem to be an interesting person and in great shape to climb. Enjoy your Nikon D810.It is a great camera. I use a D800. My interest these days are dragonfly's and bee's.
You must see,"Only the Brave". I did and it is a very touching real life movie.Might give you an idea for images.

I flew commercially over the Sierra Nevada Mountains October 14; made me wish I was driving.

Thanks for you reply's and comments. I'll check out "Only The Brave" for sure.
I love flying over the Sierra. Sometimes I can pick out the peaks, and nooks and crannies where I've been. But what's best is seeing all the one's where I haven't been (yet?)

Welcome to the forum. I am a former climber ( torn rotator cuff). My son’s live in Northern Cal and tell me the Smoke is really affecting air quality. I don’t shoot full frame but if I could I would (both money and arthritis keep me from doing so). I can’t say that I would want to see “Only the brave” as I live in AZ and the memories of what happened at Yarnell are still too fresh. Good luck in both your climbing and photography.

Great sport which IâÂÂm to fat to do but here are a few shots of my son. He is ordering a Sony 6500 which is easy to carry. He might get a pritective frame for it as well.

Welcome to the forum. Used to do a little climbing in my misspent youth while growing up in Montana. I look forward to seeing some of your photographs.
