This actually could be good news...only if the airlines will allow the cameras in the cabin area...
Right. And probably laptops, too.
I'm keeping an eye on this subject as we'll be heading across the Pond in December. No problem with a ban on cameras/laptops in checked baggage as I'd never consider doing that, but in the cabin ...... that would be a horrible ruling!

I have no problem with this. Problems will occur though if lithium batteries are declared as hazardous materiel. Then they could not be brought aboard an aircraft.
I have been carrying cameras and camcorders with me in carry-on's for years.
Never had a problem Some were big now they are smaller. Hasn't something changed.
I heard about laptops but we took them aboard a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe it's time for the scientific geniuses out there to come up with a practical replacement for these batteries if they are indeed so dangerous.

For several reasons, why would anyone check their cameras?
Seems the exploding aerosol cans are the real problem.
So how would camera makers ship their inventories to retailers?

On cargo ships, cargo planes and trains, not passenger flights!

Hard to argue that but the aerosol cans won't explode unless there's a heat source such as a fire from a lithium battery.

Wouldn’t cargo planes have the same issues?
Seems like the FAA banning electronics on flights would open a can of worms that would affect much more than photographers on vacation. The government never seems to take into account the consequences of its actions - a ban would be a disaster on many, many levels.

Electrochemical cells. Eight potatoes linked in series can power a DSLR.
