Harris Hawk & Wife in Stand-off

There was a recent post with some great shots of a Harris hawk that reminded me of our encounter in Scotland in 2004. My wife hadn’t fully bonded with the bird when I took this shot using an extremely compact Casio ES-X2 (2 MP). Forgive the composition and sharpness but I too had a Harris hawk clasping my glove and was shooting with one hand. You place a little hamburger on the glove to lure it back from flight. You can literally feel the power of the bird through the glove.

Scary. When I read the title, I though it might refer to the hawk and his wife. : )

The look in you wife's eyes says it all.

That is a wonderful image...not to many people get the chance to hold a hawk.

Thanks for the kind comments. The little Casio was my “cell phone” in the day - always in my shirt pocket and gave me shots that would not be possible otherwise.

Awesome bird - - just proves the old adage - "Be There - - Have a Camera"
I'm just glad we're too big to be considered 'dinner' (good thing there are no more pterodactyls !!)

Beautiful shot, cdayton! Your wife doesn't look to sure about holding him! :)
