I have a Nikon d7100 and a friend gave me a 18-105 FX sigma lens, will it work properly on my D7100?

Yes, it will work quite well. I used FX lenses exclusively on my D7000 successfully until purchasing a D810 and then they all work well on the new camera

If the lens has a Nikon F mount it should.

It should. Using FX lenses with a DX camera is doable. Your effective zoom range will be closer due to the size of the sensor on the DX. It's using a DX lens on an FX camera that could be problematic. It's equivalent range on a DX should be about 26-157mm... I have a Sigma 150-500 which I use on my D7500. The only down side can be a slight (and probably not noticeable) loss of clarity.

I have only crop sensor Nikon bodies and mostly FX lenses and they work just fine, better than my few DX lenses.

Sigma never made an 18-105mm lens, and it certainly would not be an FX lens if they did. Are you sure you are not talking about a 24-105mm Sigma lens?

Yes, that is an older, now discontinued FX lens from Sigma, it will work fine on the Nikon D7XXX series cameras.

ANY FX lens that Nikon has made should work on the D7100. I have never experienced any that would not. But, there is always the first time. But you know what the best part is, a FX lens on a DX body allows you to use the center part of the FX lens, AND THE CENTER OF ANY LENS IS THE SHARPEST PART. Usually.

Yes, try it. You will then learn first hand.

Hi, if the lens is a film type or has a aperture adjustment on it you will have to set it to f/22 for the camera to see it and work correctly ( this does not apply to G lenses ) I use a Sigme 28- 300 for distant shots and it works like a 42 to 450 mm lens on my d 70 Nikon camera and it also uses the center part of the lens the sharpest part.
