The arches of Moab, Utah area

Here are a couple of shots of The arches of the Moab area. The first is on a hike in the rain to Corona Arch. The second photo is of me (my wife took the pic of me and my butt) at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park.

Are those small piles of rocks in the foreground natural or have people been "desecrating" a N.P. by moving things around?

Hi Brent...Your timing of the first photo is perfection. You got the rocks and the lightning. WOW.

I suspect they are just that. I saw similar phony cairns when I was there 2 years ago.

This lightening shot appears to be incredibly close and dangerous to be out in a treeless environment in this weather ... Glad you and your family are still with us.

lamiaceae, those small piles of rocks are cairns .......they are trail markers made by man. They usually are not so many as in this scene......usually just one. Some people were having fun by adding more. Here is a link to them:
