Don't know how they got their name but do make interesting subjects.

D500, Tamron 180 and SB300.

Nice shot, Joe.
I've had a run in with Carpenter bees in the past. In the front of my old house was a wood railing separating the side walk from the plantings. One day, I noticed "sawdust" on the adjacent foliage under the fence. I got down on my hands and knees to see what was going on and ,lo and behold, there was a bee that was "Drilling" a perfectly round hole into the fence railing on the underside. It was approx. 3/8" dia. The bees bore into the wood then go horizontal and bore a passageway to put their eggs in for future hatching. I stopped the creature by stuffing the hole with an insecticide laden ball of cotton. They came back the following season or two but eventually stayed away.

Very appealing shot, Joe. The bee is sharp and the colors are lovely!

I had them and they were bad enough but when the woodpeckers went in the trim after the bees it was very bad.

Absolutely beautiful shot, Joe, and I see Tom has filled you in about carpenter bees. I like having them around but don't like the damage they can do to unpainted wood.
