Tom ... just how does one "copy a smaller size from my Flickr stream" ?

That's an easy one! After the image has been posted the site compresses it some more
You then right click on the image and download it. You end up with a tiny file no matter how big it started with. I do this trick all the time.

Well, what I do if I want a smaller picture file is save in jpg at 50% compression. I suppose any post processing software could do that.

If you're on a Mac, download the Graphic Converter 10 free trial edition from https://www.lemkesoft.de/en/products/graphicconverter/ If you like it, license it for $40.

I can't say enough good things about GC 10. I've been using Graphic Converter in one version or another since 1994. It has a slide show feature that can be used as a sorter/editor, and it is built for automating tasks such as downsizing images for the web at any size, any quality. I used it this week to resize 90 16MP images (8 to 12 MB JPEGs created from raw files) so I could email them to my son. I have a preset that resizes images to 1920 pixels on the longest side, at 70% of maximum JPEG quality. Select input folder, output folder, <click> done.

GC 10 also converts around 200 image file formats to about 80 other formats. (Bet most of you didn't know there were that many formats! Most are proprietary.) So if you have some old, weird cell phone images...

Unfortunately, I've never seen anything quite the same on Windows.

Also on a Mac, the free Mac OS Preview application that comes with every Mac can resize single images quite nicely (among lots of other cool tricks).

Download a freebie called fotosizer and you just right click on your picture file and it lets you re-size the picture, keeping the orignal intact.

ANY graphics program will do it, even free one you can download.

Irfanview is excellent and free. Get the picture on the screen (by pressing O and finding it) and then press Ctrl-R to resize it. You can do one or one hundred at a time. Easy peasy. If you get Irfanview, get the plug-ins, too.

Thanks, Jerry ... I tried to download Irfan yesterday, but before I could, it took me to something called Wintonic, so I proceeded to download that. It got to 98% completion, and then stopped. About a half hour later, I put it on Pause, and then went to Resume, and it cancelled itself out, immediately - indicating it couldn't be downloaded. Tried once more, and it fizzled out right away. Tried downloading Irfan directly, and it went straight to Wintonic again. Getting tired of the dance ... after three hours monkeying with it all, I just cancelled both screens.

Fotosizer will not work on a Mac.

I don't believe it can be done without software. I have Snapseed on my iPad. The resize option is simple to use and the software is free from Google.

Yes, it looks that way, Lone. Although, there seem to be some companies on the Net who will reduce sizes for you on-line. Snapseed seems to be catering to cellphone use. At least, it doesn't seem to be available for Windows installations on PCs. It's for the Android environment. Thanks.

Yes, I figured that, aellman ... I've tried downloading a few, but, so far - they've all timed out. Size, speed of transmission, etc. ... Oh, well!

If you are using Windows try the following
RIGHT CLICK on the file name
Select SEND TO
Select MAIL RECIPIENT
Select a size you like
Send the email to yourself
Save the attachment on the inbound email - Use care and save in a different file than the source or you will overwrite your original.

Done - no software needed.

But be aware you have little control over the compression and resizing algorithm used by Microsoft.

Although I do have a Mac, I don't use it much anymore. It always used to overheat. This is a Windows PC. But, I use dial-up for my connection to the Net, and that's notoriously, and laboriously - slow, and most downloads time out, before completion. So, I was wondering if there were a simple way, either here, or elsewhere, on the Net, to scale down, in order to post here.

Never thought about that, jcarlos ... wow!!! ... that might work, and all. Thanks, awfully ... don't know why I didn't think of it, myself. Ta!

If using Windows, Fotosizer is a good choice (and I think it is embedded in the "right-click" menu). Back in the "old" days I used Fotosizer when I used Windows.

Now I'm strictly Mac, so I recommend using the free included Preview app. However, two things to note about using Preview to resize photos:
1. When you open an image in Preview and select Tools -> Adjust Size, it will resize and OVERWRITE the original. Select File -> Duplicate first, then work resize and save the duplicate.
2. Adjust Size will NOT work on your SD card unless you duplicate first and save elsewhere.

Note: Preview also allows some basic editing of your images (again, duplicate first) like color adjustment, cropping, etc.

Just my two cents.
