I am considering the purchase of this camera because we do a lot of hiking and my Canon T4i is quite heavy and has begun to fail to focus at times. (I have to actually turn it off and back on to get it to try to focus at times) I usually keep an 18-300 lens on the camera. Does anyone have experience with this mirrorless camera? I am interested in the speed of focus and shutter lag also because I take many picture of the grandkids in sports. Primary interests are landscape, wildlife and the family shots including sports. The Fuji has great reviews but I haven't seen much on this forum about it.

Yes I have an XT20 it's a brilliant camera. Focus is lightning quick and accurate. I use a 18-135 lens for my knockabout lens. And several others for specific. You will hear people who have no experience of the camera say there is a big viewfinder lag, There Isn't! The only fault I found was it is a little small but i bought a fuji grip which made it better for me. I have been a keen amateur for many years and it is the best camera I have used.

Fuji's so-called "shutter lag" issue is greatly exaggerated. The new sensor has been upgraded to 24MP and the X-Trans processor operates with great speed. In truth any delay is so small as to be immaterial outside of advertising or commercial fashion work - in which case, you would be using an X-T2 or X-Pro2. The proverbial 'old (photographer) wives' tale. Try reading reviews that are more current.

Could that be, because Fujifilm users are a distinct MINORITY on this forum with its many Canikon & Nicanon traditionalists?

I find the Sony a6xxx to be slightly faster than the Fuji X-E2IV, for kids sports, leaping Labs, and for "the street". But, I often carry the X-E2, 'cause it's very nearly as fast at getting the shot(s), the dials and menu are more familiar to me, and the in-camera RAW converter fascinates me. I don't wish to part with either of these MILCs. _My two pennies.

Edit: For hiking, I usually take the Sony.

There is a lot to like in the Fuji X-T 20.
Very high quality images, silent electronic or mechanical shutter, touch screen, flexible configuration (don't lose the manual) small size. It has one of the most logical, convenient, user friendly layouts of any more advanced contemporary camera I've seen.
I would like it to have better battery life; buy at least two spares, and I'm still trying different set ups to minimize delay from the 'moment of recognition' to camera ready response. It's pretty fast, but I want there to be as 'instantaneous' as I am able to be. There are so many ways to configure this camera.
Anyone found a 'fastest' set up?

I'm in the same boat as you. Right now the only camera I have is my smart phone. I've got a number of film legacy lenses, Asahi, Yashica and Nikon which I'll adapt to what I get which makes Fuji my favorite choice with it's apc sensor and focusing aids. I'm waiting to see how the X-E3 reviews then will make my choice. Going to get my hands on both in the store for initial personal impressions first. Damn, patience is a PITA!

Great image, easy to use-
Try it on for size before you buy- I found it physically uncomfortable to use.

Oops, I posted that one twice, sorry.
Yes I've watched a number of Omar's videos. A great source of info and yes, fun and funny.
I have freelanced in PR in the past and teach now, so I see a fair amount of more entry to middle level cameras. Two students had the Fuji Xt1's. I was impressed by the quality of the photos and was looking for a quieter smaller camera.

Battery life can be enhanced by setting up the Fuji XT20 so that when you look through the optical viewfinder the rear panel LCD screen does not go on. There is no use to chimp since all the exposure information is provided by the optimal or electric viewfinder and you can see the shot in the viewfinder before your expose the sensor. When you are not looking through the viewfinder the LCD is shown. The point is do not use the LCD panel to expose your shots.

I did find the small size a little awkward at first but seamlessly found myself adapted to it.

Thank you all for the informative answers. I am having a hard time actually touching one, local camera shop here is out of stock. I have watched Omar's YouTube videos, very informative and helped me decide this may be the right camera for me. I have subscribed to a few Facebook sites for the XT 20 and the photos from some are outstanding. I was interested to hear negatives, and no one has presented any other than size and battery life which are problems with all mirrorless. Now to get my hands on one!!!

Ditto for me. Ironically, I found it to be too small. I ended up with the XE2s.

Me too! I could not adapt to the small size with no grip (to speak of). I found myself holding it by the lens. And I wanted to like it- a lot! It was 400.00 cheaper than the X-T2.
