Bosque del Apache

I’m heading to Bosque del Apache NWR in January. I’ve previously been there a few times and love photographing the wildlife and scenery.

We generally shoot the ponds on the way to the main entrance and do the loops inside the park. We also photograph at Ladd Gordon NWR.

Does anyone have any other favorite spots we could try?

I've been to the Bosque several times also, and have signed up for a 4-day workshop in November. My best photographs, however, have been at
the Bernardo refuge, north of the Bosque; it's a state refuge. I've gotten several spectacular shots at midday of snow geese with fresh snow on the
Monzano Mountains in the background, and have had good sunsets twice with huge flights of sandhills and snow geese silhouetted against a
spectacular sunset.

I second Bernado. When I was there last year, there were tons of cranes...

Wow, learn something new every day and sometimes it's embarrassing! I lived in Belen NM for a couple of years and never knew about the Bernardo refuge, even though I am very familiar with hwy 60 that cuts through the refuge (from I-25 towards Mountainair.) Thanks for posting that as it will give me another spot to check out the next time I visit.
A Google check shows this bit of information. "The area contains mostly flat croplands. In the late fall and winter, fields are flooded for waterfowl to roost in."

I was hoping you would get more response before this slipped into lower pages.

IIRC, the last time I did a search on "Bosque del Apache" {quote marks not included in search field} found at least twenty threads. Maybe the contents of them would give you more ideas.
