These pictures were taken in 2008, 2010 and 2011. We came across her in 2008, missed seeing her in 2009 but got to see her in 2010 and 2011. The tree blew down in a wind storm in November of 2011. We walked over to make sure there was no sign of her or any cubs in the aftermath of the storm and didn't see her. Hope you enjoy these as much as I did seeing her each year! They are about 70 ft up and it's a huge cottonwood...momma is not a tiny bear either! I had an Olympus SP550 at the time but borrowed a friends Canon Rebel in 2010 to get some good shots!
Here's a link to a video I captured of her climbing up the tree....no way are you going to out climb her!!

Did she hibernate in the tree, or just use the cavity as a den after she had her cubs? Well done.

She hibernated in the tree and the cubs were born in the tree. Only thing we can think is that she must have been born there as well to have known about it!

I can sure understand that Cindy, as the tree may be gone but sure that great memory will be with you for many years! Take care!
