Problem with Google Chrome browser

I have been trying to open Chrome on my Dell desktop computer (Windows 10) but it fails to open. I use Chrome for my Gmail where I get my Ugly Hedgehog emails. I keep getting a message that says "Your connection was interrupted". This computer is connected to the router with an Ethernet cable. I have no problems opening Firefox or MS Edge on this desktop computer. Also, to make matters more confusing, I am able to open Chrome on my Toshiba laptop (Win7) and my Dell laptop (Win10) which are a wireless connection with the router. To confuse things even further, my wife's old HP desktop with Windows XP connected via Ethernet cable will load the Chrome browser, albeit very slowly. Any assistance with this would be appreciated.

I thought I would try one more time before shutting things down for the night. Chrome browser opened with no problems. I'll have to see how it is tomorrow.

Hi ED,

Since your computer does work with other browsers , have you tried uninstalling Chrome and then try a new install. I would delete remaining folder from C:\Users\<your profile folder>\appdata\Local\Google. Also do A reboot after uninstalling.

I was not familiar with this error so I googled a little. Some network cards issues, specially when having both wi-fi and cable, not sure it apply to you. But if you want to take the approach without uninstall/reinstall you could try to
- disable your wifi network card if any
- try doing a repair on the network card
- reset your chrome

These were the most common suggestion, it worked for some , for others not.

And btw : When did this started ? I see a lot of strange errors which I often find to be Windows 10 updates. If this has just started to happen, I would look into doing a system restore from the last point. I've solved some weird cases just by doing that. Just another suggestion.

Just open your gmail in Edge. I quit Chrome a long time ago for similar reasons.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will try the uninstall and reinstall of Chrome to see how that works. Last night wasn't the first time this happened but in previous malfunctions shutting down Chrome and reopening right away always fixed the problem, but didn't work last night until the computer sat idle for a while.

Whenever I open Firefox or Chrome a message pops up on the screen saying "Edge is safer than so-and-so", which I figured was just MS hype. I may have to start using Edge more but since I heard a lot of less than flattering things about Internet Explorer I have been kind of reluctant to go to Edge as much as I use Firefox and Chrome, but I do use it once in a while.

I and a retired computer tech and I have found Edge to be one of the most stable browsers I have ever used. At first you couldn't add anything to it like Last Pass but now there are more add-ons becoming available. Takes a little getting use to but very functional. I have been using Google Mail in Edge since it's inception with no problems.
