Ok Ugly Hedgers, I am going on my annual "Sister Trip". This year will make 20 years, that my sisters and I have taken an annual trip to a different destination. This year, it looks like it is Vermont! We all "love" the upper East Coast and New England States, this time of year. As we all live in the South, Southwest, and Cali, none of us get the full "change of Seasons" that is so beautiful up North. But, we have covered most all of them, from Maryland to Maine! So, Vermont it is!! Any suggestions on Restaurants, and places that we should see. Historical sites, etc. We will be staying in Burlington, and taking a few day trips to Stowe and Waterbury. I will be taking my camera this year. I have taken it the past 2 years and have been happy I did. I usually take my P&S. So if any of you have suggestions on where to go to get Beautiful Photos, let me know. And for those of you that live on the upper West Coast, we have covered a few of those as well. Love it there too! Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Lots of marble places and Weston has lots of wood shops.

Add Woodstock and nearby Quechee to your list. Make sure to visit the Simon Pearce store in Quechee and have lunch in their restaurant. It is in a lovely old mill building hanging out over the river with a weir and covered bridge. Quechee Gorge is just a couple of miles down the road.

To find the best colors, Google for fall foliage forecast maps as you get close to your trip.

Have fun. Post pics.

Yes. The Simon Pearce store was a really nice lunch, and the glass blowing is interesting. We also found some really good places to shop for antiques in the area

Go to Woodstock, VT. The Billings Farm and Vermont's only National Park are there (Marsh, Billings, Rockefeller NP). Many great photo opportunities. Cloudland Road is famous for photo sites and Cloudland Farm Restaurant is fabulous for Farm to Plate local dining.

You are going to one of my wife's and my favorite places. We take a trip to Vermont every other year - it is so quaint and easy to see. You did not say how long you are going for but we usually go for 8-10 days and split the state in half by staying in Burlington for 4-5 days and Manchester in the south part of state for 4-5 days. That way we can take day trips easily and see the entire state because there are so many wonderful little towns to see. Could not agree more with the recommendations you have gotten above. Shelburne Farms was awesome ( a lot to see there). Also, if you like bagels you have to try Myer's Montreal Bagels in Burlington not far from downtown. My wife and I love a GOOD bagel and these are the BEST i have ever had. It was recommended and we went every morning. Boiled in honey water and wood fired to finish - absolutely awesome!!

I would add Woodstock to the list and Bennington in the south part of Vermont. Since you are going in the fall make sure if you go to Bennington to go to the top of the monument - the views of fall foliage can be spectacular and take a camera up with you! As someone said, Simon Pierce in Queechee is a must. If you visit Manchester, the Hildene Estate (Lincoln Family Home) is worth the time. Again, take your camera.

My wife and I have been fortunate to have vacationed in all 50 states and Vermont is one of those we keep going back to. Enjoy!!

Take a trip to Weston, VT and visit the Vermont Country Store. It's a lovely drive down route 100 through small valleys and and mountain peaks.

Foliage is already beginning to turn (9/16). A few suggestions: make sure you have reservations for lodging; you might enjoy the Hero Islands on Lake Champlain just north of Burlington; for fun drive through Smugglers Notch as you leave Stowe; the East Side in Newport on Lake Memphremagog is a great place for lunch; lastly, bring a sweater and jacket since it could be 30˚or 80˚ on any given day.

Don't forget the two Vermont Country Stores. One has a covered bridge on the property. I don't remember the towns, but they're mentioned in the catalogs they send out.

Check out a website called roadtrippers.com. You can map out where you want to go and the website will give you ideas on what to see, where to eat, and lodging.

Suggested areas for excellent photo ops:
1. Peach am - Danville areas
2. Stowe areas
3. Bennington areas.

An area I've always enjoyed is the Mad River Valley. Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas are there and the towns of Warren and Waitsfield have a lot of lodging and dining options. The Warren Store is not to be missed.

Always liked the Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden. Great view from the back. Should be able to capture some fall colors with some water in the shot. Anything around Killington is good for photos as well.

If no one has mentioned it yet, don't miss the Shelbourne Museum which is in the Burlington, VT, area. You can spend the whole day there easily.

If you don't mind driving on small back roads and up and down hills. The only four lane highway is Interstate 89. It begin in the north west part of the state, goes south that cut east to New Ham. Enjoy Vermont.

Thanks, we plan on driving to Stowe and Waterbury. And another day to Montpelier and possibly and Shelburne. But will put this on the list as well. Thank you for the suggestion.

you can actually drive to the top of Mt. Mansfield. The toll road (A beginner ski run) is a steep uphill ride. The cost is a ourageous $25.You better have good brakes for the trip down if you decide to do it,

Thanks! Someone suggested this as well.
