The Nikon P900 has a longer all in one superzoom lens (83X), but it lacks 4K, and has only 16MP. the Nikon B700 has a bit less zoom, but still a lot (60X), and has 20MP, and has 4K capability.

The Nikon D5300 is a good camera, but lacks a built in focus motor. If you want an interchangeable lens camera, consider the Nikon D7200 which has a built in focus motor, so it can auto focus with older lenses which lack focus motors (non AFS lenses).

Thank you. One of the cameras I was looking at was the P900. I looked at the B700. Then looked up the P900 and the B700. A number of people who had both seemed to like the P900 better. I don't take videos and don't use raw but I do want auto focus and good clear pictures. I like good detail because I use some of the rodeo pictures for my art work. Thank you so much for answering.

[quote=betsytamblyn]I'm frustrated at looking up new cameras....

First, welcome to UHH.

You're right, you need two cameras...
For trail rides you need a small and tough camera, try to search data nf the Panasonic TS6 or ZS50, both are small and feature-rich.
For vacations/lava/hummingbirds, etc., I suggest you take a look at the new Canon SL2 (upgrade of SL1 which is the smallest DSLR but also with lots of features that might serve your needs). The SL2 is much smaller and lighter than many other DSLR cameras but has similar high-end features.

You can go to this website https://dpreview.com -> Cameras -> Panasonic and search on ZS50 or TS6, then on Canon SL2 and read their reviews and then make your own decisions.

The above-mentioned cameras are only my suggestions, of course there are also countless other cameras that you can compare and then make your final decision.

Hope this helps a little bit in you search. Happy hunting!

Welcome to The Hog! Consider the Canon SX-60 and the Nikon P900 for your purposes.

I thank everybody that replied. I went and looked up all suggested cameras. Some looked to advanced for me others looked good. I had a cannon that was great but it DIED!!!
I bought a Nikon coolpix L830. I took it to the National Finals rodeo and it was horrible!!! It wasn't fast enough focusing. Shutter speed with indoor lighting blurred everything no matter what I did. It sucked!!! I bought a lumix DMC-FZ70 in Vegas the guy swore it would work. I couldn't I wasted so much time playing with the settings and I still couldn't get it to freeze the action in the low light. Even without that problem I had trouble figuring it out. I took the COOLPIX L830 out today walking along the river to see the birds and animals. It is SLOW to focus on subjects. Still don't like it. I under stand the basics. Shutter speed freezes action. Aperture is depth of field. Iso (more or less was basically film speed). I also have a cannon sx730 HS that I carry on the trail. Had a hard tome getting things like spider in web and flowers close up from horses back. Took pictures of friend on trail okay. I need a camera in 2 weeks so I've got to decide now.
Does anybody have the same or different suggestions from what I've said? I need something fairly "keep it simple stupid" but focusing and speed I think are some of my problems.
