Still learning, these pictures were taking through a window so they aren't the best. Considering the circumstances, I think they turned out ok.

Did you focus on the bird?

I was trying to but it was a little difficult to focus on the bird when I was shooting through the window.

Great job at selective focus. There is nothing distracting in the background.

There is a hint of the location: Lake in the background???

My only suggestion, which may be difficult to address is: lighter subject darker background. You may need to artificial light to the feeder and the birds. That exposure should darken the background.

Fantastic first effort.

Nice first effort. Had you been outside they would have been that much better.

Very nice - I've been experimenting with hummers for the past couple of months - they're a real challenge!! Since they flit around so quickly I've been focusing on the feeder and hoping that the bird will cooperate by being in the same general field of focus - sometimes that works, mostly it doesn't! Since they are so fearless I've been able to get within about five feet of the feeder - I use f/8, a high shutter speed, a toned down fill flash, and also climb a few steps up a ladder to get at a good angle.

BTW - that's a really nice feeder, a huge improvement over what WallyWorld offers!

Indeed they did turn out good, piedmonte66! We were at Al's neice's home and I was watching hummers through their window, too, but they were so darned fast that I couldn't get a shot of them. :(
