Put a life preserver on now lest you forget. You know this isn't a wolf blowing at your house.

In reality what choices do we have but to "set it out".... the cruse lines could have loaded them selves full and gone out to see where the ships and people will be safe.. instead they dump them at port then ran.
Interstates are jammed gas is on empty at stations. Water shelves are empty as are the canned veggies at WMrt.
Since the 1980 structures are by code required to withstand 200mph sustained for 24 hrs. [if codes followed] Be sure to watch the old Bogart Movie... Key Largo .... we learned to be aware of NYC crooks who come to FL!! hummm...

Specifically, what code are you referring to? I don't think any building can withstand 200 mph winds for 24 hours!

I wish that were true. My residence, in SW Miami was built in 1996. I have shutters; I fear for the roof.
I think you all may be in for a ride you cannot prepare for. Get to a safe place or find shelter. It just isn't worth the risk. Good luck.
Please prepare and hunker down or evacuate over there. I have seen what Harvey did in this state as I am in Texas for a short spell. We are still having hard time getting gas in San Antonio still and most stores can't keep water stocked. Will be praying!
How about your car??? Maybe you should put THAT on the roof. It would help hold it down and keep it from getting destroyed in the flood. Hell, Miami floods out now just at high tide. Good luck

To everyone in harms way - including (since I see that UH emails come from Miami) the folks at Ugly Hedgehog - be safe and sound. We here in Iowa send our Love...and wish you well.

I experienced Andrew 25 years ago and know what can happen. I know there is no way to fully prepare.
My wife and I have made the decision to ride it out; but I will admit that I am 65 years old, and fearful. I hope we don't regret this decision.
I do appreciate the concern that people have expressed.
There are always many less fortunate affected by natural disasters.
Please be careful and safe. The media will provide plenty of photos.
Be safe friend. We are praying for Florida.

We are hunkered down in Miami waiting with serious dread. But my cameras are charged and ready if there is an opportunity for any remarkable shots.
No doubt, there will be extensive damage to shoot on Monday morning.
I am in West Palm Beach. Let's hope we both are able to shoot MINIMUM damages. Keep it moving to the West.

Had to photo document the house contents etc etc for insurance if needed. we will sit it out unless they predict winds for us above 80mph in our area. so will be able to take some shots of the area
otherwise we will head to a dog friendly shelter
Anyone who stays in ANY part of FLA. is a fool. Your life and/or well being is far more important than any photo.

I just explained to my daughter why her 91-year-old grandmother is still in Ft Lauderdale. The experts say trying to evacuate is more dangerous than staying put is.
My wife and I are over 80 and in Bonita Springs (between Ft Myers and Naples for you non-Floridians) and we will ride it out. We have food, water, a generator, and hurricane shutters. House built in 1999 is supposed to handle steady winds in the 140+ mph range and we went through Wilma and Charlie with no problems. All us Floridians thank everyone for your prayers and best wishes.
