I would like to combine several images of the eclipse into a single photograph showing the sequence of partial through to total and then through to final partial. I'll probably have 4 to 6 partial shots on each side of the total. Does anyone know of a software program that can do this? I know it must be out there because I've seen the results, just not how if was achieved. I've downloaded 2 different software programs but they seem to be suitable only for overlapping images like three or four shots taken across a landscape or a sequence of images of a drawing or painting. The images I want to sequence are obviously similar but don't need to be tied together, just sequenced across the frame.
You don't really need special software to do this. If you're using PS, or any other editor that has layer capabilities, load each as its own layer within one image. You can then move each of the layers to a favorable position. Masking will allow for final tuning of the image prior to outputting. --Bob

It sounds to me that you're essentially creating a collage, which can be done with any editor. The first time I did that was over ten years ago, when I used a primitive thing called PictureIt! Most recently I did it with {free} gimp.

Thanks. I've downloaded GIMP and am slowly working to understand how to use it. It looks like a steep learning curve! But I'm also somewhat distracted and dealing with hurricane recovery issues.

I did a montage of a lunar eclipse from a few years ago using PS. Open all the photos as layers in PS. Set the modes for all the layers except the bottom one to Lighten Only. Except for some masking and other edits, you're done. You can do something similar in Gimp.

Hi nikonlad - could you tell me any more about Matt K's You tube? I followed the link provided but it doesn't take me to a You tube site. Would love to get to the video.
