Thanks, I see tags but they don't work for me, but that's OK.
More importantly, where did you get the acronym IMHO? Did you come up with that on your own?

First, we are not going to get into a contest about "fair use". IMHO any use without attribution is theft. End of comment.

Second. How to get Bold Typeface

At the bottom of the reply box is a 'show tags' button. Clicking this gives a list of possible tags. See images.

I read the article, very interesting, especially the destroyed $9,000 lens. ( i wonder who pays for that?) I also read a few articles about destroyed Cell phone cameras. I'm sure we will be seeing law suits in the future.

Attribution is implied when no credit is given to the original source. You will always lose that case. Ask Ivanka Trump how her speech at the Republican Convention worked out for her. Same principal. Same for copywrite law. When you use the work of someone else and fail to give credit in a public forum, chances are very good that you would lose that case also. Make it easy on yourself and just give the credit due. It is the courteous and right thing to do.

Sorry, misspoke. Should have been Melania and not Ivanka. Got my Trump's mixed up.

Lawsuits over what? Fortunately, there is no law governing stupidity in spite of all the warnings.

Did you forget to mention these photos were published in lensrental.com blog on Friday?

Yes, please provide sources.
Canon Rumors has a link to this as well.

www.lensrentals.com/blog/2017/09/rental-camera-gear-destroyed-by-the-solar-eclipse-of-2017/

This seems to be the article in question; the first picture in it was the damaged iris shown in Fotoartist's post. Lensrentals is a company in my state of Tennessee (Cordova). The blog was interesting to read, especially some of the comments. The main thing I took away was that out of the thousands (their figure) of lenses and other equipment they'd rented for the eclipse event, only about a half-dozen items came back damaged (heck, they were destroyed!), as shown in the blog post.

IMHO = In my humble opinion (Certainly did not originate in my brain)

To make the tags work you have to type the square brackets and their contents. Each tag has a "opening tag" and a "closing tag", left and right respectively. The closing tag has a "/" at its start right after the [ . Besure to also include the ].
The tags tell the web browser where to start and stop the effect you are asking for.

Considered photographing the eclipse, but the expense of filters I will never use again and all the people trying to rent space and rip off the public, I got turned off and passed. I made a better photo in Photoshop👍 Camera's in tip top shape.

I bought a solar filter for my wide angle lens because I didn't want to spend $200 on a solar lens for my Sigma 150-600 lens that was used on a Canon EOS 80D. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures. Might not have been aimed right. I had used this same set up the Saturday before the eclipse at a class and managed to get a decent picture. Wish I would have used my big lens. Probably could have gotten a decent picture with my smartphone or my point-and-shoot.

After I bought my solar filter, I found instructions online on how to make one using purchased solar filter paper and PVC pipe or cardboard tubes. Wish I would have seen that before I bought a filter for the smaller lens.

I live in the St. Louis area and was lucky enough to just go out in a field in front of our house and set up. Will try again in 2024 even though Carbondale, IL is about a 3 hour drive. The 2024 eclipse is supposed to start somewhere in Mexico and go up toward the northeast. It is set to through Carbondale, IL again on that date.
