I'm sure I am not alone as one who is inundated with the nuisance robocalls. I am on the verge of declaring victory over theses scumbags. About a week ago I became "Big Joe's Fishbait and BBQ Emporium" in answering these easily id'd calls. The phone rings, I pick it up and answer using that phrase, and ad, "if younwant bbq, that takes a little longer, 'cause I have to wash up the fishbait befo I make the Q." Click. I guess my caller is uninterested in bbq or fishbait!!!

I love your solution! Before my son set up my phone so that nuisance calls do not come through - phone just rings once - i was tempted to answer in Italian, just to get revenge! Have no idea what my son did, but it works.

I have only a cellphone. When a call comes in, the caller is displayed. If no name, only a number, I do not answer. If Caller-ID on a wired phone displays a number I don't know, I DON'T ANSWER. Was heavy volume of calls at first, but now down to about one a day. For a land-line phone, hook up a recorder and let THAT answer! If it's a robo, it usually hangs up.

I sometimes blow a police whistle LOUDLY into the phone. The first time I didn't have enough sense to take it away from my ear. Not a good idea!

I was in a meeting, when a local 206 area code came in, since it was close to my number I picked up and hung up right away. My thought was it might be someone I new. Before calling the number, Googled it.The local 206 number was registered to a person in Saudi Arabia .
Local calls aren't always local.

This is probably to late for you, but to protect my cell account I never just give out my cell number. I always give our land line number. Some places sell your number or get hacked. Regarding your wife's cell, try her cell provider about blocking robo calls. The advertisers are pressuring Congress to open up cells like they did to landlines.

Thats all well and good, however, my wife and I keep getting robocalls and a recorded message telling us we stayed at one of their resorts and if we remain on the line a live person will come on to advise us of the reward, OR, there is an issue with our account, just stay on the line so they they can have an operator assist us in clearing it up.

Usually it hits my wife's number, then within 5 minute it hits my cell number. Heather sounds like a very nice girl, but she is lying when she says we stayed at one of their resorts or booked a cruise recently with them. :D

They also get tricky with changing the number reportedly dialed from, so it is a local area code and a different number each time, so more difficult to ID/block.

Any suggestion?

The national do not call list is useless. In fact, my robo and nuisance calls actually increased after I added my number. Theoretically, you can report the offending caller, but the FTC clearly does not have the manpower or willingness to prosecute abusers.

Based on what I read here recently, I got rid of my land line and went to Ooma. So far I am very happy. I was also getting the robo calls..and the resort lady every single day starting from 9am until around 9pm. My phone allowed me to block up to 30 numbers, well, that filled up quickly with these darn calls. But when I switched to Ooma, they have a data base already that weeds out these calls, but if you subscribe to the premier service, you can add numbers to block. So I went in and added all the numbers from call block list and I have not heard from them since. (and I kept my same phone number through Ooma). I get occasional calls, new numbers now, I just block them, and after a few are collected, I just add them to the list in my Ooma account. Even better, when they are blocked on my phone, they can call through again, but the phone only rings once and it is blocked, with Ooma, my phone never rings, they are just blocked.

My solution is very simple: If the caller ID is blank or unrecognized, I ignore the call. If it is someone that I should be in contact with, I assume that they will leave a voice mail and I would return the call. All of my phones and tv have caller ID, including the hands free in the car.

I have been having the same exact thing happening recently. Caller ID shows same area code and first three digits as my number. It is also the same call, i.e., same upbeat young woman every time, Jessica, same spiel " you stayed at our resort and won a free vacation". I can't block the number because it's never the same number twice.

Ahh yes, Jessica and Heather must be sisters, I get her too!

So far, DND mode blocks all calls from numbers not in my contacts on my iPhone, so Jessica and Heather will be disappointed for sure :)

My dad loves messing with telemarketers. He'll string them along for as long as possible before telling them to get lost. He turns it into a game for his own amusement.

I love to keep them on line, too. I'm retired so I have plenty of free time. Once kept a caller on for 7 1/2 minutes.

I just had the exact same conversation with Jerry about the Call Blocker system. It works very well. I think with a combination of their preprogrammed spam number blocking system and adding your own, you will eventually get it down to just a few calls per week. Add them to your list and they all go away.

Amazon sells a device that goes between the phone and wall jack. I think they sell a couple of versions. One can either use a button to to capture the caller number or use a slower multi button procedure to enter nuisance numbers in its memory. Works only when you have caller i.d. service.
