why does the horse in number four have its eyes completely covered? I know about blinders, but this is extreme.

I know I agree, it is extreme, the only thing I know is because they're expensive show horses, and they want them focused , with no fear! Idk 😀

That is a mesh screen to keep flies from bothering the horse's eyes.

Always like horses. Especially mine. If askwd nice and arent too far from south lexington ky next time i go to visit my daughter i would let you know and you could get up front and personal with future race horses. She nanages a barn there

They flies actually bother some horses more than others or that particular horse could have a little discharge from the eyes which would cause more fly problems. Like people that wipe the dried sleep from their eyes in the morning. Also that horse could just have a different owner that requests the fly mask
