I would strongly consider contacting Howard5252. Longtime member and selling a D7200 for $720 that is a decent step up from the D7100 as you progress.

The camera is capable of delivering PROFESSIONAL results. It can do most everything the serious photographer wants to achieve. That said I owned one but upgraded as Nikon progressed. This camera remains a very good value and can still deliver in the right hands.

I've had mine since it was released. I love it and use it (now in combination with my D610 full frame) constantly. I love the D7100 and use it for any short telephoto to long shots. I use the D610 for wide to 50mm shots including portraits and head shots. I also use my 50mm 1.4 on the D7100 for short telephoto, portraits and headshots.

The D7100 is such a popular camera, that as far as I know, it is still in production since 2013. I would buy a D7200 over the D7100, simply because it has a better buffer. I know someone who owns a D7100, and he is content with it. Both cameras have been sold as refurbished, with some very good bargain prices. Make sure you don't get a gray market model on either cameras. Good luck.

I have had a 7100 for years. It is a great camera. I recently picked up a 7200 and like it really well also. I think the 7200 has better low light sensitivity. You can't really go wrong. Good glass really makes the difference. Have fun.

Hi Donna,
Thanks for your input. I'm shooting with a Nikon D3100 right now I've had this camera about 5 years and have been wanting to upgrade. This camera is on sale for $696. I wanted the 7500 but it's over $1,200 and I can't see spending more money if there's not that much difference in the two.
Thanks!

I went from a d3100 to the d7100. I loved my 3100 and I love my 7100 more I bought mine refurbished. Have not had a problem with it and I have put over 50,000 clicks on it. The only weakness of the camera for me is the small buffer size. So shooting raw in burst mode you are only going to get about six frames off before it starts to bog down. Other than that it is a great camera. Some people say that it is dollar for dollar among one of Nikons best ever. I don't know if that is true or not but I don't think anyone who buys one will be unhappy with it. Here is why I think so. Image quality is outstanding. Dynamic range is outstanding. Weather "resistant" body dual SD card slots up to 7 frames per second burst (in jpg). A good screen low noise capability is good. Not great. It will be better than the d3100 But never as good as a full frame sensor. But I have gotten acceptable images at 6400 ISO. I admit noise does start to become an issue above 800 ISO but I regularly shoot in dark hockey rinks at 3200 and get good images. Battery life is very good I regularly get well above the 900 images per charge it states in the specs on the original battery. It does not have wifi which I do not need but the adapter can be bought for about $50 if you need it. Buffer size and wifi are really the only two things the 7200 has over it and I didn't think they were worth the extra money. The frame of the body is magnesium alloy which makes it more durable than all plastic which the 3100 is. I have average size hands I found the d3100 just a little small, although heavier the 7100 fits better in my hands. On the 3100 I got very comfortable with the one wheel for shutter speed and appeture. It did take some getting used to using front and back wheels on the 7100. Most people prefer the 2 wheels. Focus system is far superior. Maybe one of Nikons best. For me the little dots in the 3100 viewfinder were too small. The 7100 has many more and are much easier to see with many more options. The focus system alone make the 7100 a superior camera. Overall there is nothing to not like about the 7100. If you do decide to purchase one I wish you the best of luck and happy shooting with it!

I have two of them upgraded from a very old D40. First one purchased new and second used. Great camera and have never had an issue that was not operator generated. Bought the second one after I purchased a 200-500 tele lens and decided it was easier to have it permanently installed then trying to switch quickly. Usually carry both on my excursions. Good luck with your choice.

I have had mine since December 2014 and love it. Love the two card slots. Was definitely a new learning experience from the D60 I started with when I finally went digital in 2009.
