ON1 Upgrade?

I'm not sure I want to pay the reduced price of $49 for the ON1 Photo RAW upgrade. Maybe I should wait till the price goes up - or not upgrade at all. Please, someone tell me what to do because I can't make up my mind.

I have the 30-day trial, so I'll play around with that and see if I think I need it.

What other software do you use, and what more do you want to be able to do? ON1 looks like a nice product but doesn't add anything my Photoshop, Ligntroom, and a bunch of Topaz plugins provide.

That's what I'm thinking. LR is my go-to program.

I own On1 and have for a while and I just recently downloaded that update for free Jerry. I think that's a new buy price, great software by the way.

It may be nice to have if you ever decide not to continue the PS/LR subscription. ( Affinity Photo also )

I like what I can get out of the raw/develop module.

But for me, it has not lived up to the speed hype they claimed.
Going from module to module is not instant. ( Photoshop - no modules to click through )
Every time On1 closes, there is this dialog that pops up for about 3 to 5 seconds saying it closing database.

On my computer, PS is lightning fast compared to On1.

I'm not sure I want to pay the reduced price of $4... (show quote)

I purchased on1 when they first came along. It was cheap at that time. Other than the portrait module, I never spent much time in the application. Since I have the PSCC/LRCC subscription, and those tools do all I need, I won't be upgrading on1. In fact, I'm really close to uninstalling it.

I love ON1 and Topaz...between the two of them i get everything i need done. I do have Photoshop and Lightroom and very rarely use them.
I refuse to buy a subscription.

At this time I use ON1 more than I use Photoshop.
That could change.

If you already own On1 RAW Jerry it should be a free update, I just updated recently. Your query is a tough decision particularly if you haven't had the SW around to utilize when you want to play and learn. The 30 day trial really isn't enough time to dig in and find out if you'd really use it or not, $49.00 isn't a huge investment therefore, I'd jump in with both feet if that is indeed what you need to do. I'm an avid LR to PS user and swear by them, I use On1/Topaz/Luminar as PS plug ins however there are times particularly if I want an easy and quick way to replace a sky I jump from LR to On1 Layers then back to LR to finish with PS.

My workflow begins in LR, where I do all I can to adjust my raw photos as best I can. Generally I will then go to ON1 (which I really like) or to Topaz (which I like as well). Topaz provides modules not available in On 1, such as Impressions, etc. sometimes I will do some work in On 1 and then go on to Topaz as well. I find myself using PS less and less, except, of course, for the type of edits that cannot be done in On 1 or Topaz. Most often I access ON1 and Topaz directly from PS, so if I need to do something in PS, I'm already there.

Be sure your computer can handle it. My desktop HP Envy does not have the OPEN GL 3.3 or above so I can't use it on my "go-to" computer.

Buy it why wait for it to go up. It's good software why the problem?

Enjoy and stop worrying.

I bought On1 a few years ago. I thought I would use the layers and masking for changing backgrounds. Also I thought the portrait module would save time. I rarely use the program. Like many here have said LL and PS will do almost all I require. Also when I did buy the upgrade they changes a lot of the inner face so it's a new learning curve. The portrait module makes some changes easy but I have much better control in PS. Skin softening is terrible in my opinion. It softens the whole face eyes lips hair. I will keep the version I have and spend no more money on it. Your better off with $10. a month for LL and PS.

I understand. I am in the same position as you.

I used to use ON software a few years ago but fmoved on from it - I found it lacked subtlety but that may well have been my lack of expertise.

I now use LR, Macphun Luminar & Alien Skin Exposure X2.

I've just downloaded the update of ON1 but probably won't buy it - the advertising got to me.

Sorry I thought you were a committed user hence my earlier comment. Hope this helps.

Good luck.
