I believe as others have said Nikon makes the sensor, guess they are tired of second rate Sony products.

Nikon fully designed the sensor, they have not disclosed who is doing the manufacturing. It could still be Sony. The last time they went with another manufacturer I believe there were some growing pain and they went back to Sony. If Nikon was building it I think they would have said so rather then saying designed by.

Sort of like Zeiss designed lenses coming from China?

Congrats Nikon - You hit one out of the park. I particularly like being able to shoot at 20mp and switch to 46mp for really big results on a sturdy tripod.

I am a Nikon die hard guy, that said, it is hard to pick ONE camera as the world's best pro camera. I believe each professional camera has something great about it (and this includes Canon and Sony). Certainly the Nikon D850 with the NIKON DEVELOPED 46mp sensor is a step forward for a company that is re inventing itself. Having owned the D4s for many years I am not yet ready to acclaim the D850's virtues just yet. Nikon is famous for putting past parts on new cameras, ie. many features of the D850 are also shared by the D500 and D5.
I will go out on a limb and state that my Manual Focus Carl Zeiss T* lenses for my Nikon, like the manual focus Carl Zeiss T* lenses for my Hasselblad, are among the World's best camera optics.

1) The D850 sounds like an outstanding camera and I'd love to have one.
2) To ascribe the title "Best" to anything without delineating the conditions under which it, and any others in the same category, will be used is a fool's errand. Just think how you would react if someone said they had the best car or best handgun or best education or best...

Good point. It would not work too well underwater as currently configured. PS best hand gun is the one you have on you when a dirt bag attacks you and you need to put him out of his misery.

The worlds best Pro camera? Made by Nikon? I think you need to qualify that statement. I would venture to state that the best Pro Camera is a Hasselblad. Or maybe a Pro One. If you are referring to 35mm style than that is also debatable.

It depends upon the "pro"...

I don't see many sports photographers using Hasselblads.

As to "switching between 20MP and 46MP"... Do you mean DX and FX formats? If so, that's been a feature of many Nikon DSLRs for some years now, to allow FX cameras to use DX lenses.

But if you are referring to simply generating Large, Medium and Small JPEGs and RAW files... Well, that's a feature most DSLRs have had for years, too.

I do not own the Nikon D750 but I have used one and it is a superb camera. Now, if someone needs 47 megapixels that is a different story.
By the way, OOC JPEG files are said to be of excellent quality but I have known that from my present Nikon bodies.

As I've said before, 46 mp give you a lot more cropping options than a 24mp sensor. I crop quite often myself and would love a sensor with that kind of resolution.

Then get a Canon with 50, or did you miss that fact.

How are you defining "best Pro camera" and under what shooting conditions. An 8x10 would not make a good camera to shoot action sports. Both 35 and 8x10 can be used for portrait photography.

Personally, I am glad that the big boys are following Olympus' lead. I just wonder why they only went 46mp instead of 80mp like Olympus. Of course, 46mp is still a big file that chews up memory let alone an 80mp file. Looks like the chip manufactures are going to have to produce a lot more chips, and bigger ones, for all us photographers.

Just like I prefer the old 5D for weddings, I would choose the D750 for sports for two reasons. D750 reputation and proven results. Don't need the newest and maybe the best (or not). I may change my mind in a year or two.
