The local open air farmers market held in the parking lot of the fairgrounds is taking heat because resellers who purchase produce and resell are pushing out local farmers who want to attend. It is still billed as farmers market for local farmers and local produce. This dispute has been going on for some time. Now two amateur photographers have been kicked out of the market for taking pictures or video of the vendor stalls. One, a lawyer, has been banned for life from the fairgrounds during market hours. I hope he challenges this in the courts.

That's horrible! And in Canada - the Land of the Polite!

People are too concerned about controlling everything everyone else does. Keep us informed about any developments.

Wait a minute! Who has the authority to control access?
Is this on public property?
How do they enforce the ban?

I'll help with the protest posters.

Farmers Markets are a great concept, appreciated and promoted by most of the public. But as in all things where money is involved there will be the temptation to cheat! As a former vendor in several local markets I can attest that resellers do exist, when the word spreads, especially in a small community, it kills it for the honest vendors, and that fraudulent practice will eventually ruin it for all.

Re-sellers in a "Farmers Market" is not new* and has be going on for over 50 years in my experience but banning people for taking pictures crosses the line. I hope this gets to the courts! Quickly!!

* I recall back in the 60's going to a local farmers market and finding peaches which wouldn't be harvested locally for at least another month. Week end visitors from the city didn't have a clue and I'm sure didn't really care.

The treatment of the photographers by the security guards and follow up threatening letter to the lawyer by the farmers market is what disturbs me. My understanding is there is no law against taking photos on public land and this is city owned property. Papers here have even taken the issues of taking pictures of police activities to court and have won that it is OK. I can understand that they may be able to remove someone from their event for trespassing but photography is permitted and they should not be threatening legal action.

This falls in line with LA banning all video capturing devices in public parks when concerts are going on - Govt control - they always want more...

Does anyone really think things sold at a "farmer's market" are from local farmers? News flash--they aren't.
