This seemed to me like the size of a monarch or a little larger, and I wonder if anyone knows what it is called. It seems unusually plain colored for a butterfly except for the bright blue trim on the tail.
Thank you very much, Erv, for the nice comment. --Tom
Looks like a Spicebush Swallowtail.
Thanks, Rick, for the identification. Now I can read up on it in Wickipedia, etc... --Tom
Nice shot, Black Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly. they are big.
Hi H.T., thanks for the identification. I think you are right, the dark phase female seems to look more like what I have here. Thanks for your help.

it's a beautiful swallowtail i think..nice shots tom!
Hi M.T. and thanks for the info... and for the nice comment. I think it might be a Black Eastern Tiger Swallowtail which is apparently a black female version of the Yellow and Black striped large Swallowtail butterfly. Whatever, it's a beautiful butterfly! Thanks for the look and comment!!! --Tom

Double thanks to you, Donna, and H.T. for the ident. and nice comments. --Tom
Nice set, Tom and we had quite a few last season and really did confuse me, but yet to see one this season!
A great place to go for ID's is BAMONA on the web. It has helped me a lot. Great shots.
