Update your ACR if you are trying to download Raw images.

If you have an earlier version of Lightroom, you have to go to Adobe"s website and download their DNG converter.

Carter,

Hope is well, having communicated with you in a while. Confirmed the newer version of Lightroom won't support the D500, I thought it did. I have the older version Lightroom 5 and I have to use the DNG converter.

That's curious, it has worked great for me for over a year now. I personally will never convert .nef files to .dng because of the amount of data that is lost doing the conversion.

When I visited China earlier this year, I left all my FF Nikon gear at home. I contacted NPS and borrowed a D500, battery pack & a 18mm-300mm lens and went for broke. It was so much easier using the D500 than carrying all my full frame gear.

The only thing is I had to download all my images to DNG converter before I could edit my images in Lightroom. Because my earlier Lightroom version did not support the D500.

I'm to cheap to recant the newer Lightroom version.

Not updating Lightrooms ACR module leaves you with no choice but to convert and sacrifice data. To me, not updating software when you update a camera makes me ask, why?
It's like buying a new car and keeping the worn out engine from the old car rather than the new engine, it just makes no sense to do so and then complain about having a worn out engine.

I did not know this - that data is lost converting .NEF files to .DNG. I did this conversion only once. Nearly all of my raws are NEFs.

How do I update Lightroom's ACR ?? I am currently using LR 5.7 and I am using a D750 and a D7000.
So far I have not encountered any nasty error messages. ~FiddleMaker

Lightroom 5 will not update it's ACR to a level compatible with the D500.
To update just click HELP on your toolbar and select CHECK FOR UPDATES. Any available updates will download.

thanks for the advice. I don't have a D500 but I guess I could still update anyway.
