I realize there's a sub forum for this but most posts are several years old.
So question: any recommendations based on experience for a digital camera appropriate for snorkeling in Hawaii? Olympus TG-3 seems to be a contender....
I'd rather not get into Ikelite housings for full sized digital cameras...
Thanks

Did you mean to juxtapose the terms "underwater photography" and "sub forum"?
It will be interesting to hear the responses, suggestions, and also any responses for shark repellent recommendations.
I just meant to acknowledge that there is a UHH forum for underwater photography before I get castigated for not asking my question there. You know how some hoggers are....
How about submarine forum?

Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for.

Yes, Olympus Tough is the way to go.
Nikonos V and I have a Minolta Vectis weathermatic dual also.
Both are good underwater cameras.
Nikonos V is a good choice for a film camera and cheap on eBay but all the additional bits you need for proper use (tray, connecting power cords for strobes, strobeS, lenses, viewfinders, cleaning supplies, filters, how to book) can really add up.
I have the Nikonos II, III and V with all the available lenses and usually dive with two bodies on a single tray and two Ikelite strobes. I put a wide angle lense on one camera and a close up on the other. I guarantee if you don't cover both ends you will see a whale shark while planning on a coral closeup or vise-versa.
I have been using the Nikon 1 and find it quite good just make sure you grease the fittings properly so there's no problem with water leaking into the main housing. It also has the ability to switch lens. Video is great. Actually have used it in several productions for tv.

Just bought the Olympus TG-5 for my Florida vacation - more than happy with the capabilities and quality (4K video and RAW images were top of my list). Used it on beach, underwater in sea, pool, lake - works great. Get one of those cheap "floater" wrists straps for it... I just leave mine floating on the surface of the pool 'til I need it :)
Nikon makes an underwater point and shoot. Pictures are just ok. Good for snorkeling. Reputation for the camera is marginal.
I use a Sony RX100 with an U/W housing.
To get good photos, you will need a good point-and-shoot with U/W housing.

I have a GoPro Sessions that can be used underwater to a depth of +/- 30 feet. I haven't had it that deep yet but one day soon.
