I have never considered this.. in fact, I sold all my canon equipment and now run my entire business on a Sony P&S camera. Thank you so much for your help! Another thought. I am considering doing weddings with my iPhone. Smile
Well you know, the more skill you have, the less equipment you need, haha
Like many others, I carry a P&S with me all the time to catch the unexpected shot, especially while driving. But I have my Sony A350 in the back seat and a moderately heavy tripod in the car. Each has its uses, but I'm lucky to get a 16x20 print from the P&S, but I can get a 24x36 poster from the A350.

How much does the 24 X 36 cost ?
That must be some great photo !!
Personal ,I use an eight by ten digital picture frame and all my photo's are free!! and call it a day.
small depth of field, larger sensor, better images, the ability to print photos at much larger sizes, higher quality lenses, the ability to use polarizer and nd filters, and the fact that chicks dig the long lenses!!!!
... But think how good they COULD have been with a P&S with fancy electronics! Such a shame.
And when Ansel Adams was taking pictures of Yosemite National Park without any electrons, this was considered fancy electronics. And they were NOT needed to take really great photographs.
What is it that you guys gain from all of the stuff you drag around as opposed to my new Sony P&S with the advanced electronics?
WOW !! Dude !! If you walk by an electromagnet, does your face get ripped off :?: :?: Sorry - - just hadda go there cuz that was the quote that went along with your Avatar the first time I saw it :) Anyway - - do THIS with your Sony: -
I think I can come close in quality to your post with my Olympus point & shoot. Rbo36
This guy is simply a troll. He starts these threads and after the initial post never post in that topic again. He is not here to learn or contribute and has never posted a photo. I doubt that he even has a camera. He poor mouths in one thread and brags about his 6 HD TV sets and Dell laptop in another. The photo he uses as an avatar is something he got from the internet. I believe he is probably 13 or 14 and since school is out he is bored and gets his kicks by trolling. He has no valid points. The one point he does have he should keep covered with a hat. There are some great shots and humor in this thread though so he is not totally useless.
90% of people are satisfied with snapshots obtainable with cell phones and P&S cameras. The rest of us are photographers.
Nikonian, your 'photographs' are great but I think some of my 'pictures' taken with an Olympus Point & Shoot camera are not to be scoffed at either. If I had the money maybe I could be a 'photographer' (if I had the knowledge and ability). In the mean time I just have to try to be the best 'snopshot' picture taker I can be.
I don't HAVE any expensive camera equipment but the answers I've read here tell me this. All those goodies get drug around for the same reason I kept over a 1/4 ton of tools in my pickup's tool box - so I could do the job and do it right, whatever the job. The more you know about what you're doing, the more stuff you get to do it. You might need that certain item just once every 6 or seven months, but jack-legging around to do what 'cha gotta do WITHOUT that gizmo makes having it worth everthing. Plus, having all those toys add bonus point!

Yes but I'll wager you wouldn't have kept that 1/4 ton of tools with you if you had to carry them in a bag over your shoulder instead of letting the pickup do the work. A good craftsman will scout out the job first and determine what will be necessary to accomplish his goals.
