Not having done this before, can I assume that you can add the photos from one day to the photos from a previous day on a flash drive without erasing the fist day's photos? I hate if this sounds idiotic.

Steve, that is a very good question. The answer is yes. There are many size flash drives from 2gb to 128g. The cost is as variable as there are manufacturers. My personal preference on an important trip, is to have many flash drives, none holding more than 16gb. The reason is, if I lose or damage 1, I have my back up, I will not loose all of my work. You can get good ones for around $15.00. I don't recommended el cheapos for important trips.
When you download your first batch of images, setup a folder, name it appropriately and download. If you wish to add more photos, you can either download them to the same folder, or create a new one. I hope this helps.

If I copy the first day's shoot using Filehub then shoot the second day on the same SD card, will it copy only the second day's shooting?

So what if you don't have an I-phone? Or if that phone doesn't work where you are?

You don't need an iPhone, and you don't need cellular reception. It connects to your phone with bluetooth.

So why does it connect to a phone? I guess I don't understand the premise.

Unfortunately it does not work with a Mac based system. Maybe in the future it will be.

Actually it does, with some apparently minor limitations. Check it out on Amazon. Many of the users posting reviews or answering questions there are Mac users and seem very happy with this device.

You use an app on your smartphone to control the process, i.e., to tell the RAV device what to copy and where to copy it to. There is no display screen on the RAV device.

Have the WD MyPassport also. 2 Tb drive.
Has SD card slot. Stick it in and auto-copies it to the drive. Can charge your smartphone. Isbwifi enabled and you can see the files on your smartphone also. Will be using it extensively in the next 5 days shooting 3 weddings in 2 countries....am crazy paranoid about backups and dont trust upload speeds in hotels for dropbox. Laptop+Mypassport+sd cards+whatever I can upload on dropbox :-)

No where in the descriptions of the MyPassport drives on Amazon can I find anywhere that describes an SD card slot, and nothing about auto-copying contents of an SD card to the drive. In your last sentence you say that you use it in conjunction with your laptop. That I understand - it has a USB port for that. Am I missing something?

And since it works with either an IOS or Android Ap, you could use a Samsung Tablet as well.

The 1TB version is $160. No laptop or extra external drive/usb needed. You can use your smartphone to check that the files tranferred. Perfect for quick backup in the field. It will also be seen by your laptop as a USB drive also through the USB port.

This is what dual card slots are for. 😀

Dual slots are great but they don't protect against camera loss, theft or damage.

Brought one to Southeast Asia and it worked like a charm backed up my files every night with no problems.

I am heading to Africa in a few weeks, and did not want to take my laptop to back up all my photos. Someone mentioned in passing "Filehub" on a post last week. I checked it out, and purchased one.

This is a small battery-operated (rechargeable batteries - plugs in) device that serves several purposes. It can be used as a wireless network router. It can serve as a battery back-up for your smart phone, AND - it is a file transfer device which operates with an Ap for your smart phone (I think on either Apple IOS and Android devices).

I purchased this from Amazon for $40. I downloaded the Ap. You plug in your SD Memory card on one end and a USB Thumb Drive on the other end. You could probably use a portable hard drive as well. Although the instructions are more about using it as a network hub, I figured out how to use the Ap to create a folder on my thumb drive and quickly copy image files from my SD card to the thumb drive. The file transfer seemed pretty fast. I plan on using this every night to create backups from my SD cards onto thumb drives so that I will have a second set of images. They will also be easier to work with on my computer when I get home - with the images already on the thumb drives.
I am heading to Africa in a few weeks, and did not... (show quote)

Thank you for the information and the photos. Sounds like a great idea.
