Mr. And Mrs. Reinhold
Before we flew to Washington D.C. to watch the fireworks from the Capitol steps, I did this couple's portrait in my new studio. Critical feedback appreciated.
I'm no expert, so take this as an amateur's opinion and with a grain of salt. First, I like the pose very much, both appear natural and relaxed. But as posted, the shot looks a little soft. Maybe the hi-res version is better? Maybe it's intentional on your part?
Also, I'd like either a little more light on their clothing, or to see the shot in color, as the strong contrast with dark clothing makes them almost appear to be a pair of disembodied heads. For a theatrical act, it would be fine, but as a family portrait, I personally don't find the look all that appealing...
Still, it's a pleasant image overall and I'm sure they're pleased with it, so please take my comments for what they are, just this beholder's opinion.
Treepusher - thank you for your comments. I liked the full-color better, but you were right I used a softer filter on the B & W. I working on my B & W skills. Thanks, again.
Lovely couple. The post work on the woman is very soft. We call it the porcelain doll look. The client might like it?
The post work is quite different on the man compared with the woman.
I like low key images, This pose is great, it could use a separation light. Her arm looks somewhat detached. Also providing the download is helpful to look at detail. As stated, the processing of each of them looks different.

Nice, very nice. Wish I could see a little more detail of the couple. They have sort of disappeared. I like Treepusher's comment above who is anything but an amateur.
I think Treepusher sums it up perfectly, I'm also not a fan of that disembodied head look.
Handsome couple. Nice faces. I would brush back either the background or their clothes (I'd do the latter) to reconnect the arm. Also, I concur that the blur on the wife's face is a bit heavy--reduce opacity? Also, it looks like her blur includes her mouth and eyes? Make blur layer a mask and brush off eyes and mouth. And I can see the blur line on her neck just above the sweater collar. And I'd clean up (liquefy) the wattle on his neck. But you got the hard part right! Thanks for your post.
Great facial expressions on both people. The disconnected arm needs to go completely. The diagonal line from upper left to lower right and most of us would read the photo left to right leaves you staring at the arm. Yet the faces are worthy of a longer look. With the arm gone cropping could be tighter so the eyes would make even a more powerful impact.
It's kind of spooky for me--the heads and arm seem to appear out of nowhere. Perhaps you can add a little more detail to the clothing to eliminate this look. I like the softness.
