A thrill for me. Don't get to see many hawks.

First quick look and may agree with you on a juvenile Coopers Hawk due to your San Fran area location. However do not overlook the possibility of a Sharp-shinned Hawk due to the short tail (though it appears split - not rounded or squared) white undertail coverlets and pale eyebrow. Lean towards Coopers...but.

True, can't be sure. I'm no expert. I understand they're hard to tell apart, but Cooper's more common.

Nice! I like the pose in the third one. I've spent a lifetime being confused by Cooper's vs Sharp-shinned hawk ID. I'm leaning toward Sharp-shinned here. They are less common but they are around in our area. I had one in my yard last week. These are good sharp photos globetrekker, way to go!Phil

Nice set! In my neighborhood, the coopers have mostly driven out the sharp-shinneds.

Thank you, Sir! Heck if I know which it is. I'll leave that to the expert birders among us.

I guess that means they can tell each other apart, lol. Thanks for looking.
