Question for the OP, why did you ask the question?

I was going to say the same thing. The manuals never mention that it's necessary

Myself my camera has dual cards and I will get assignments that require different file sizes. And I will inevitably forget to adjust my file size. Did a Iron Man Triathlon last month and turned in too small a file size and the project was almost a bust. By habit no matter what my working card requires, my backup slot is always set to full size. It saved the day but cost us time converting so we could upload into the system. I wish Canon would display the expected file size in the S1 - S3 settings on the camera.

I seem to forget that I've dialed in exposure compensation. I ruined a slew of what would have been some pretty nice pictures of a blue jay splashing and bathing in a shadowy stream because I forgot I'd dialed in EC for a "sunny scape." You'd think that would have taught me always to check, but I still tend to forget.

One instance where a mirrorless camera beats DSLRS. You always know what the shot is going to look like. Leaving the lens cap on is another.

The "off" setting. Nothing comes out. What am I doing wrong?

I think what the OP is referring to is some kind of promo UHH runs on the internet. I haven't seen them, but some new people before have come in asking for answers to questions they saw somewhere pointing them to this site. I guess management doesn't care if they will actually be able to find the answers.

Really, the only setting that is ruining my pictures is not found in the camera. It's the "not thinking" setting in my brain. Poor ole cameras get blamed.

The wife 'setting' next to me! Guaranteed to be 'the wrong' photo.

I would assume most all of them unless you understand the exposure triangle. Even the most expensive cameras can take crappy shots depending on the photographer...

I find shooting manual/RAW with the cap on provides more data in post processing.

I just spent 20 minutes signing up , logging in and searching this topic , only to feel I’ve wasted that time. Yes , I like sarcasm and light humor but that’s not why I signed up. So was that “One setting that...” thing just a lure so I could read ads and corny jokes? Sorry but I don’t like wasting time or feeling manipulated. Can someone please find and post the actual “answer” to the question implied?

You are in the "general" conversation section, you do not need to read this stuff! BUT sometimes there is some real good conversations here! Look at the menu at log in, "active topics", "watched topics", "newest topics" and don't forget the "photos" section. By the way, Welcome to the group!

"Did you know about this one camera setting that ruins your pictures"? If you read carefully, you'll see there are only three possible answers; YES (I did know), NO (I did not know) or I'M NOT SURE (weather I knew it or not). Since this is from a "not for profit" (at least as far as its members are concerned) I'm surprised. It's a little like the infamous "it was owned by a little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays" comment at the used car lot. I'm not sure why a "not for profit" would ask a "scammy" question like this but it nakes one wonder whether you'll get good answers from articles that may have been provided by advertisers and such. The question just has a tainted look. Don R.

I'm new to the group. I joined due to the title of this post -- One camera setting that ruins your pictures -- but I have yet to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction, please? Thanks!

Possibilities are too numerous to mention.
