I sign up for a 30 day FREE trail of a skin care product.
I called their Customer Service and asked them what happens at the end of 30 days. They said I would continue to receive a monthly supply for a low cost of $97.00 per month.
Such a great deal that I canceled my account.
I should know better I had been bitten in the past.
So beware.

Same thing with a "free trial" magazine subscription. They promised you could avoid any costs by cancelling the subscription before the trial period ends. Yeah, right. They neglect to tell you there's no way to cancel. My son got suckered into three "free" subscriptions and also had to cancel his credit card in order to stop being charged. Nothing's free if they want a credit card number or bank account number in order to get it.

So true, I had to call my bank and explain to them what happened and they had to cancel my card too.....We learn from our mistakes.

Free can be very expensive. BTW I am a prince in Nigeria, and if you would e-mail your social security number to me I will have 1 million dollars deposited in your bank account.

Same here. 14 day trial for 12$ then they said it worked best with product B. I ordered product A and then it would come up with product B and would not let me not order it.so I ordered it for another $12. After 14 days I get 2 charges for $89 for each product. No where on the site did they inform me I would automatically be charged. Called company and they were very nice about it and refunded my money. Lesson learned.

My wife and granddaughter got suckered into getting some "free samples" of magazines at one of the local grocery stores. Turned that they had subscribed to all those magazines, about five or six of them. It was a pain in the butt to cancel them.

I don't even accept the "free" samples when shopping at Costco. That has to be a scam of some kind.

Agreed! Generally they want your e-mail address in order to give you the "free" sample. As soon as I hear that, I smile, refuse and walk away.

My wife fell for that scam - nothing but slick salemanship - I cancelled the account and after a great deal of argument I got the item they delivered at half price.
The part on their website which they told me it was a continuing order arrangement was all greyed out when I looked for it and I had missed it when I placed the order.

Had one that said free 30 day trial but hidden in the fine print it said you had to cancel within 14 days or after 30 days your paying. No more free trials or door to door sales people. Even had Pay Pal screw me. Sometimes we learn off other's mistakes, sometimes our own.

I did the same thing and got burnt by these people. Their intention to send the free item for shipping and handling only and then to send a monthly supply and charge $99 for it each month was buried in their "Terms and Conditions" to which I had agreed without reading them. After having been charged for three months I contacted my credit card company and disputed the charges and they were eventually removed from my account.

I took away two lessons from this. 1. Never sign up for any so called free thing on the internet when you have to give your credit card to pay for shipping and handling. 2. Always read the Terms and Conditions.

Me too. My wife ordered two different products at the same time, from her phone. We got billed the shipping for the FREE one and $99 for the next months. I called to cancel and they would not do it. They said their web site had all the info. Told them we did not buy from there and what was on their site was not the same as the one we ordered from. What we ordered was a month free trial......and there should be no $99 charge until the next month.....they kept refusing to refund so I filed a claim with BBB.......They even refused them. I appealed and told the company one more time to cancel ALL product and refund in full or I would take them to court and it would cost them more in the long run as I had copies of all transactions showing what I said as true, and at the same time I would shut them down for false advertising. I got my $200 back and kept the free sample. There are LOTS of complaints against this company on the internet. I tried to get letters from a lot of them but no one wants to get involved, so I was on my own. Print out their web site and a copy of the EARLY billing to put with the BBB claim. To bad people have to scam to make money.......they just keep telling people they will not refund, so the customers just give up..

BBB is as much a scam as the scammers. Good ratings are bought, not earned.

When I read: '30 day free trial' I delete it immediately. Been there, done that.

Yeah, the old Costco try a free sample of our tasty finger food product scam. They almost force you to try a sample of their yummy merchandise and then badger you into purchasing their delicious product by offering a second sample.
I remember several years ago when the Costco in King of Prussia PA first opened, A group of us from work would go there at lunch time and score a free lunch by trying all the free samples.
Haven't done that in awhile.

Several years ago Verizon offered to upgrade our flip phones for free and if we didn't like the new ones we could return them. What they didn't say and the fine print on the documents accompany them was that there was an $80.00 restocking fee for each phone. Sometimes they don't even send you the fine print until AFTER the fact. Now that our "new" phones are 10 years old, they have been calling us every day sometimes twice a day offering a deal we can't refuse. Will hang on to what we have until they are no longer usable.

Some credit cards offer a one-time number you can use to order something. That way they can collect their shipping and not more. Chase has a couple of cards that do this. You can scam the scammers. :-)
