...I was taught, by an olde sailor, that "line" is proper. Nice shot!

Actually, it may technically be "Small Stuff" If it is less than 1 3/4" Circumference (~9/16 Dia.), otherwise line is the term.

Rope is Wire.

My guess is that it is a 3" line

Rope is generic. Line is a rope for a specific purpose ie anchor line, dock line and a host of others.

If the background was a corral with cows or horses . . . I'd call it a rope . . .
Since the background is nautical . . . I'd call it a line . . .

As a former merchant sailor, we'd call that "line". Big mooring line is "hawser". What land lubbers commonly call "cable", we'd call "wire rope"; "cable" carries electrical current, not mechanical load. Maybe others have different terms.
