Looking at this camera for the wife. The weight factor. Your thoughts on this one would help. I see a used one on E. Selling to go back to FF. Thank you for your help.

I have the EM 10 and love it. Understand the EM I is even better. At my age (80) weight is a big issue.

Go for it-- a great camera with a huge range of available lenses, both pro quality and otherwise. You can't go wrong.

I love my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. I shot Nikon for 37 years, and was probably the biggest Nikon fanboy there was. Due to medical issues I had to switch to a lighter-weight system. At the suggestion of a friend that I have known for 40 years (a Pulitzer Prize winner and a shooter for Nat Geo for the last 25 years), l gave the OM-D system a try and have not looked back, selling all of my beloved Nikon gear and going 100% Olympus.

Very nicely built Vietnamese made camera. Slightly better in craftsmanship than the older Chinese made Mark I.

You made me look. Sure enough, my E-M5ii was made by the Viet Cong. The high end lenses were made in Japan, and the kit lenses were made in China. Fuji makes everything in Japan except one body that I found - the X-T10 I think. There may be others. Nikon builds a lot of stuff in Thailand whenever the floodwaters recede.

It's a high end camera...so your wife better know what she's doing as it's highly customizable.

High end means easy to use. Everything is straight forward.

I have a silver 27mm f/2.8 Fujifilm "pancake" lens that was made in China.

It is a brilliant camera, well I would say that, I've had one since they were first released. You don't mention your wife's level of knowledge of photography (though if she is anything like mine she will know everything about everything, apparently). The reason I mention this is because the Olympus EM1 mark II is not a camera for beginers, it's marketed as a professional camera and is really rather sophisticated: and the menus are a little challenging. Having said all that, many (well, EM1.2 users) regard it as the best mirrorless camera currently available. For most photography genres it provides image quality that rivals FF and APS-C - it certainly rivals my Nikon D500 and Nikkor lenses. The Olympus Zuiko lenses are fabulous - I now own just two, a 300mm f4 Pro + 1.4 TC and a 12 - 100mm f4 Pro. But I did own a 12 - 40mm f2.8 Pro, a 40 - 150mm f2.8 Pro and 60mm f2.8 macro, all of which are light and beautifully built. If your wife does not require the sophistication of the EM1 mark II and does not photograph birds in flight, I suggest an excellent/mint used Olympus EM1. I owned two, which I part exchanged for an EM1 mark II.

If your wife is just an average shooter, and weight is a factor, I would stick with the EM5MarkII. It is very light weight, even with the pro lenses. It takes tack sharp pictures, and has some very impressive built-in features. I just sold my EM5MarkII for the EM1MarkII and the new one is noticeably heavier. Still, it's not as heavy as my Nikon was. But because the new camera focuses and shoots so much faster for wildlife, I gladly trade that capability for a bit more weight. So it all depends on the kind of shooting your wife loves to do. But either camera would be a great one to own.

Agree with those above. If she's not doing fast motion and prefers S-AF, the em5ii or em1 would be a better option.

Former Nikon shooter. Switched to the EM1 MkII about 60 days ago. I love the platform. Still learning the menu. The 12-100 f4 is my go to lens in most cases. I also own the 17mm (35 equivalent) when I want to go light and the 45 mm (90 equivalent) for headshots. I am very pleased with the pro build and the image quality, and especially the stops gained with the excellent stabilization system. You can not go wrong.

I did exactly the same thing for exactly the same reasons. I've never looked back.
