I just returned from a trip to Portugal and Spain. Upon our return to the US (Atlanta) from Barcelona, Spain I encountered no issues going though security in Atlanta with my camera gear. I had my Fuji XT2 and three lenses, no tripod, in a shoulder bag that I enclosed in my backpack. I carried this backpack through security which is considerably tighter coming from a foreign country into the US. Finally, I had no issues when leaving Barcelona and going through security to board my flight in Spain. I have to admit that I was a lightly paranoid after reading many of the 'What ifs' form this forum.

Because those laws make sense. This one doesn't.

We all know that if you drink before you drive, there is a good chance that you can kill someone due to alcohol. One death every 51 minutes

so... why is alcohol still legal and why don't we all need to be checked out before we start our cars?

Alcohol is still legal because millions of people drink it WITHOUT getting into vehicle accidents. They are smart enough to know that driving while intoxicated is what bring about the death toll, NOT just drinking alcohol. The reason we are not checked before driving is because of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution, there are not enough officers to check every single person about to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and for the majority of us there would be no probable cause to check us out.

My two cents. This is not a security issue it is a political issue. Face it--we are much more at risk of self-inflicted death from car crashes, guns, alcohol, etc. then we are of terrorist attacks. But the government has a misguided but actual interest in making the public afraid and thinking that it is doing something for us.

However you come down on the issue it's your first amendment right (and responsibility) to let your views be know.

As far as TSA, we just need to take a deep breath and try to figure out what they are doing on any given day and at any given airport (airports are not uniform in following the same rules). It's not the TSA agents at the airport who need to be informed of our opinions or whom we should direct our ire as they did not make the rules and can't change them. They are just doing their job--some better and some worse.

I passed through security at Boston Logan Airport last night, boarding an international flight. My gear (camera body and 3 lenses, batteries, filter holder, filters, etc., passed through screening in my ThinkTank bag. No issues at all. I did not need to remove anything from the bag.

They could put a device in every car. Besides the idiots who kill someone every 51 minutes, how many more drive drunk on a regular bases?

It does not in other countries.
It does after you pass the customs when you are back in the US for a connecting, domestic, flight.

I just went through this.

Ok, thanks. I haven't been able to use it in the past when I flew to Korea (not noted on my boarding pass), maybe Korean Airlines doesn't participate? Hopefully I can use it this time. I'm not taking much camera stuff anyway since I'll be working most of the time I'm there. Just my A6000 with a couple of prime lenses (12MM F2, 19MM F2.8), so it shouldn't be a big problem anyway.

I've only flown three times since 9-11...once for a funeral and twice to go to bomb schools. I presume it's a little arrogant but I'm a veteran and currently a fireman and I don't feel inclined to put up with bullcrap from an organization that has yet to stop a terrorist.

[quote=Rongnongno]This is a non issue as you have no say over it, like everyone else you will have to submit to morons on a power trip.

Morons on a power trip..... Well I would rather submit to "morons on a power trip" than have the plan blow up!! You might feel different if you were on it!

A few people drive drunk on a regular basis. In my LEO experience I have seen a few people who are arrested every few weeks for drunk driving. It used to be, in the 70's, that nothing much happened to them. Maybe things have changed for the better but America isn't really interested in stopping drunk drivers. Many get probation or a small fine. One person who was in our jail twice had two drunk driving accidents which resulted in a fatality each time. I THINK he received prison time with the second fatality. A first offense fine was about $360.00 then. As far as putting monitors in vehicles, I don't want to pay more money for a vehicle just because a few, compared to the population number, drive drunk.

Went to Norway this past June. Have Global Entry and am 70. Still had to remove lenses and camera bodies from camera backpack and place in plastic container to get through security. Could keep shoes on though. Same thing on return. Global entry really shortens re entry time, at least at SFO.

If you live near Canada, consider getting a NEXUS card. $50 for five years, and you get preTSA, Global Entry, expedited land border crossings between the USA and Canada, and expedited security clearance at major Canadian airports. The catch: after the initial checking you out, you will need to go to an interview near the border, so that both American and Canadian border agency folks can talk to you. For me, that was driving from Seattle 90 minutes north to Blaine. In my case, I was only interviewed by an American border officer, but I know folks who were interviewed by both. It is a great deal.
