The Andromeda aka M31 project.
Conditions not the best due to clouds, early sunrise but managed reasonable first attempt with the modified 450d.
25 lights @ 30s ISO 800
25 lights @ 45s ISO 800
25 lights @ 60s ISO 800
The reason for staggered exposure durations is an attempt to preserve the inner core & finer details within the spiral arms.
A bit of fine tuning with the frame count should reveal more detail.

a simple exposure stacking used in everyday HDR photography that seems to work in AP.
makes me wonder what this method could achieve on nebula??????

I'd say you cracked it! That is a great image, really...
Whew!! Very well done ! can you elaborate on the HDR stacking method you used ?

Different exposures 30 - 45 - 60 seconds.
Each stack is then processed individually.
I like to keep my black point between 15-20, this makes merging the 3 final images from the stacks easier.
Within the final image is where i may drop the black point to a more pleasing level.
Neil Carboni astro tools are a must & really assist with contrast enhancements, making stars smaller, space noise reduction etc.
It is also worth experimenting with opacity of the carboni adjustment layer.
Subtle enhancements is a must & a method i use in all my post processing.

Beautiful Marc. Did you process the 30-45-60 lights separately and layer them??? We got to see Andromeda about midnight last Saturday night up on the mountain in a 16" Dobsonian f/4.5. It was awesome.
