Canon Powershot S5is "SET" button

This camera works well except that the "SET" button on the back is dead as a door nail. Have tried resetting the camera by removing all batteries, including the the little time/date 3v one, without luck. Have no idea if the problem is hardware or software. Want to save the camera as a gift for a youngster. Anyone have any ideas???

That button has probably gotten a lot of use over the years, and it probably failed mechanically. Repair would be out of the question, but replacement could be an economical option.
