Thanks 77. Got the base of his tongue, but the tip doesn't show. Moving too fast.

Thank you, I'll show these pics to my husband and inform him I'm never going camping again in Montana. He'll probably be happy to hear that as all he wants to do is fish 24/7.
You probably camp in the mountains, not many snakes there. Besides, you might like fishing.
Great shots! Like them both!
What lens and settings did you use? Looks like a dedicated macro??
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Clicker. I used a Canon Rebel XTI, with a 75-300 kit lens. Thats what I pack on my 4 wheeler, was fixing fence. Oh shutter was 1/320 at f/5.6

Jeeze, didn't know you were so mean! ;-)
Oh yes you did!
Ace,
Nice shots. Shame your SS was not a little faster, you would have gotten the tip of the tongue. Snakes are not my favorite critters but do make interesting subjects at times.

you are correct ace-mt bullsnakes are good snakes but not according to my wife. all dead snakes are good snakes in her world.

You're right. Honestly, I didnt think about his tongue. I wanted a shallow DOF. This lens is wide open at 5.6 which gave me 1/320th. ISO was at 100, Wish I had bumped it up.

Maybe he will come back? I got some nice shots of a black snake fishing in the water a few weeks ago. First and last time I saw him but you never know.

Same with my wife, she cringes when she sees a dead one.

Great shots! I particularly like the first one. Nice that he agreed to stick around and pose for you. The sparkling effect is fabulous!

Wow, thanks. I was surprised that he didn't move. He was still in the same spot as I rode away.

Nice pictures of snake, just wish it wasn't so overexposed. Oh,well, nothing that can't be fixed.
My wife, in spite of 30 years of my efforts, still wants to kill every snake she sees. Hope this guy keeps on killing mice for a long time.
