I second the advice about having a long lens with you. Wide angle for the vistas and telephoto zoom to break down individual parts of a photo. When I was at the south rim last October I used my wide angle for the vistas and then used the telephoto for interesting rock formations, etc.
The lens you mention will do a find job on landscapes. But take lens with some "reach" also. I recommend at least 300mm.
My Sigma 10-20 F3.5 worked great on my D7000 in the canyon country. Can't beat wide field of view for wide expanses.
Just for me, the Grand Canyon itself is a big yawn photographically, especially with a wide angle lens. Sounds like I'm trying to be controversial, but when you look at your shots you will see what I mean. I've been to both sides 3 times and it's very difficult to get a winning shot. First of all it's all Background, and I don't mean middle ground Plus background, but all Background. And all Background with a very similar look in general, especially in the middle of the day, especially on a nice day. You will be challenged unless you can find some good foreground interest, or interesting weather conditions, or you shoot real early in the morning and get long blue shadows. And don't even worry about capturing a good sky unless there is one already there. It's just a horizontal strip across the top which you can easily repair or replace later in post. Also, your best shots just might be with a telephoto for compression and composition.

Headed for Grand Canyon. I bought a Canyon 17mm- 40mm f/4L lens for the trip. Any feedback on this lens for that kind of landscape shooting.
The lens will serve to get those all inclusive shots of the canyon. Also some feature up close with the canyon as a backdrop. I would take a 24-105 as well as the other 2 lenses. It is good for the stone observation tower and similar shots. The long lens also gets details in the canyon besides critters. Think and use imagination.
Sunset shots at Mather Point, walking access from main Visitor Center parking lot, or along paved trail at canyon edge. Mather Pt. will be crowded as it juts out into canyon. So go early and stake out your spot. For sunrise photos, catch shuttle too Hermit's Rest and get off at either Powell Point or Mojave Point - very few people at that hour. Can catch regular shuttle at Visitor Center and then transfer at Bright Angel Lodge or drive up to Bright Angel Lodge and shuttle stop is 1/4 mile beyond lodge parking lot. Have to take shuttles beyond Bright Angel Lodge. Drive East along canyon to Desert View for different view of canyon and watch tower is interesting - designerd by female architect. You will be given map when entering GC so all this will make sense then. FYI - camera lens is perfect, but to take tripod, cable release and filter as others have suggested.
As rrayrob has mentioned, sunrise and sunset are THE TIME for awesome shots. Midday, the canyon looks very dull with heat waves and bleached with the sun !
That was one of my points too.
Thanks to all for the positive info. I will put it to good use.

I didn't know there was a lens manufacturer named Canyon. Is it a good quality lens so far.

I am sure it is far superior to any Nikon ever made.
Enjoy your trip. If you've never seen the canyon before you're in for a treat. Try for a sunrise and a sunset, you'll be glad you did.
Your 17-40 should do well for you.
We were there in September of last year. Try and avoid the main tourist points near the village unless you enjoy crowds.
Have a great trip
Happy Shooting

Yes, Canyon lens - has every WIDE opening and great DEPTH. 😀 Gawd, hope I never make a typo here!
Have great trip! I'm planning Sept. trip to North Rim of Grand Canyon & to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend.

I am glad you have a great sense of humor. I hoped you would. Enjoy your trip. I have been to the Grand Canyon twice and loved it both times. The lens should do a splendid job.

CRAP!!! I was going to come back with a similar comment but you beat me to it. I am sure you will make a mistake at some point. We will ALL be watching now. You are most likely a good egg as my grandmother used to say. I hate to really screw up so if I ever do I hope someone will let me know.
Have a great evening,
Dennis
