This is my first time editing a RAW file with Corel Paintshop Pro X9. I invite criticism.

I think you did a very good job. BTW I am not a professional photographer.

UTGhog - I'm not familiar with the Corel tools. I'd suggest three changes: 1, revisit the exposure setting and increase the "brightness" of the image. The colors are rich, but this version is too dark. 2, revisit the sharpening settings. This may be as sharp as the capture accomplished (lens & camera), but I believe some more modest adjustments can still be made in the resulting image. 3, when capturing the RAW images in the future, adjust the exposure more to the right in the histogram so that you have brighter images to begin with in the edit process (ETTR - expose to the right).

You might crop-in closer such as the leaf in the lower right exiting the corner of the image bringing the dragon larger within the resulting, smaller image frame. Overall, good start and hopefully will generate a desire for more.

Try to blur everything in the background. Make the dragonfly to stand out more.

This might be a little better. Thanks for the input CHG_CANON and everyone else. I have a lot to learn.

Exactly regarding crop and exposure changed. You may have sharpened a bit too, but that is subtle and I don't have my largest monitor at the moment to review. Hopefully, you like the result ... Maybe now draw-in the upper left corner to make the frame slightly smaller again to clip off the brown strip that has touches the upper right margin with the prior crop.

First, nice shot of the dragonfly. It's a Great Blue Skimmer I think.
A lot of critique is mostly personal preference so keep that in mind when you read this and other replies. sm24.gif
I agree with the suggestion to tone down the green and yellow in the background.
In Lightroom I use the luminescence tool to do that and I assume there is a similar tool in Paintshop.
Generally, when cropping, it is a good idea to avoid putting the subject dead center in the frame.
I frequently use the 'rule of thirds' as a guide for positioning the subject.
Reducing the saturation/vibrance a bit might help.
As a macro photographer who shoots a lot of insects, I generally try to get the eyes in focus as a priority.
I realize that with the dragonfly facing away from you that would be hard but keep it in mind for future shots.
A lot of what I've said it just repeats what others have already said and I only repeat them for emphasis.
