Yes. I know his head is red, not the belly, however that is what the book says it is called.

A beautiful sharp image. We have them in our yard quite often. They always announce their presence. I'm not sure why they are so noisy, but I enjoy them and continue to try to get an image near the quality of yours.

It get it too now, Red Bellied not Red Breasted. I should have known better. A birder from long ago and a biologist so I should know avian anatomy. But then we don't have that species where I live in California, or any similar Woodpeckers.

Kevin, excellent photo and it is a Red Bellied Woodpecker. Names of our birds at times used to make no sense to me than I realized they only made sense to the person who gave the bird it's name.
