Lightroom Catalog Question (v5.7)

Greetings Fellow Ugly Hedgehogs (and to those who are not so ugly as well).

This is (should be) an elementary question I just don't have time to search for the answer if it can be helped.
So your help would be very appreciated.
When I start a 'new' catalog in LR I clicked Import and selected a drive without carefully choosing a name
AND .. without carefully looking at the top of the LR screen " Copy as DNG Copy Move Add" (as choices)
for some reason "Move .and.. Add" were listed as processes.
My Question: Where does LR 'move' those actual files ....... Choosing add shows "add photos to catalog without moving them"
... Haven't wanted or needed to do this in years, though have been using ALR for years.

It moves the images wherever you designate in the bottom right area of the import dialog, under the section labeled Destination. It's not much different than Copy or Copy as DNG.

Thank you! ... I 'get it' now.
Normally don't get too obfuscated with LR .. my carelessness was at fault. Sort of like doing the shoot
without taking the lens cap off ... (sort of)

I had a similar experience once. What I discovered was that LR insists on either moving or copying items imported from a camera memory card. I was doing some work for a friend, and she keeps her memory cards intact, using a new card when the current one gets full. But I actually didn't want to either copy or move the files. But LR insisted. So I copied them to my hard drive, then copied them back to her memory card. Sometimes one simply has to come up with a work-around!

This is strange. I Import to LR from my memory cards all the time. The only options it gives me are "Copy" or "Copy as DNG". Either option creates a copy of the file on the memory card in the location I specify and keeps the original file on the card as well. Copy is just like using a copier for a document - it does not delete the original. I just did this for the umpteenth time just to verify. Strange is all I can say.

Reading between the lines the OP was importing from a disc drive, not from the camera or card.

That's precisely my point. I didn't want them copied to anywhere.

If images are imported from a camera or memory card LR will always copy them. It is Copy as DNG or Copy (as is). The originals are left intact on the card so there is no need to copy them back from your hard drive to the card, the images are still there.

If you are importing from a Hard drive, all four options are available: Copy as DNG, Copy, Move and Add.
